What would we be playing if fender never had existed?

We wouldn't be playing anything. If Fender didn't exist, the universe would collapse upon itself and destroy us all.

If it didn't exist, I probably wouldn't have been born. My parents loved the shadows and met at some sort of concert, and they used Fenders. If they didn't have a Fender, they may not have practised that one time, which may have meant that they didn't book that venue, and blah blah I'm rambling!!

After all these years and Stratocasters being such an integral part of my life, I can't imagine. As a matter of fact, I really don't want to.

I really can't imagine Hendrix, Clapton or Gilmour without their Strats. Who knows how different our music today would be without Fender.

I don't just own Fenders. I do not buy any guitar just because of its makers name it because it speaks to me.

There is surely (or is not) many parallel universes where the lack of the great Leo Fender left the music lovers with the choice of playing recorder solos in the jungle or listening to the Beethoven's 27th symphony while sky diving with Lucy. Anything goes (or not). In other universes, people would try to imagine some place where a regular guy would bolt on two pieces of lumber together, string it and electrify it and make some noise to attract females in order to reproduce his genes. Where does reality come from? Maybe we're just rejected scenarios of a perfect world.

I just love surreal posts from time to time. Plus, I thought this topic was the place to be, at this moment, in this universe.
