Mine was my Dad's old Hondo from the 70s. He tried to learn when he was my age but gave up. If it wasn't for that Guitar, I'd probably never have started. I remember he thought it was going to be a phase, and it was kept at my grandparent's house. One day I went over and nicked it. Hahahaha. I played him James Bond's theme and he was sold.

Good times.

My first was a candy apple red Tokai '62 strat copy purchased from the factory in '86. Wish I still had it... Tokai made some brilliant replicas for the money, but I sold it to..erm.."upgrade" to a series of shiny, pointy metal sticks until I came back to the fold in '92 with a real Fender.

My very first instrument was a Hohner Marine Band Harmonica - I don't have it any more - I should buy myself one again.

I got it when I was in the 8th Grade - to be part of a Harmonica Ensemble for school. :P It was a lot of fun.

My first instrument was a generic brand 3/4 size nylon strung acoustic which I was given at the age of 5. (I much later broke the neck trying to fit steel strings :? ).

Um, accordion..............

I actually wish I'd kept up with it a little, I'm past the point now of worrying too much about people finding it "uncool."

Harmony H-78 from a catalogue. Sort of Jazzmaster-looking. $69.95 for guitar, case, pick, strap, book, record, 3-tube amp.

Thought it was the door to Heaven at the time.

hmm, my first instrument was a (bloc)flute. then came the alt-flute. Then came my Adonis. I sold that one, sometimes regret it.
Then came the Dean Evo (Dragster). Still have that one, it's my only guitar.

'rock god', you actually hurt my feelings a little bit, coz I love my Burning Betty. May not be the best wooden 6 string out there, but with a little love, a decent guitar player can play some pretty fine tunes on her.
Guess you were too busy looking in the mirror (being a rock god and all), to give it a little love.
You really should try that, to play with feeling, it works.

I got a Mickey Mouse drum kit when I was three, for Christmas.

At some point, my dad found his old guitar and I fooled around with that on occasion... that was before age ten.

At nine, I started playing percussion, and I've been with that ever since.

I didn't actually start playing guitar until I was sixteen.

I have a Dean Evo that I bought used from Sam Ash. Wasn't the sweetest guitar at first, but after some pick ups, tuners and bridge adjustment, it's great. Plays fast and smooth as hell. Sounds great too. I wasn't my first axe, but an impulse buy because the neck was soooo sweet.
