Ok Here's my idea. After reading WAY too many articles on how amps, pickups, guitars, etc. "sound". It occured to me that it is almost impossible to gauge anyones opinion on sound, because there is no universal vocabulary to describe a sound that everyone understands, and can relate to. What sounds good to me may sound like poo to you. I could try an describe it to you with words like: clean,muddy,jangle,bell like, chimmy, airey, transparent, dark, brown, crunchy, grind, greasy, muffled, ringing,dirty,scooped,bassey, trebly, twangy, ice picky(one of my fav's) farty, sleezy and grumpy. OR..... somebody could work on a dialogue{sic}
that would work for everyone. So if one of you smart guys could get right on that, you can send me a check when you get the advance from your publisher. Thanks!

The dialogue already exists, and is used by audio professionals the world over. A real audio pro doesn't say "muddy," he says, "there's a build-up of frequencies in the low-mids, right around 300k or so." While an audio pro may pepper his or her speech with colloquial phrases like "fat," "sparkly," they are always capable of describing the sound they are describing in terms of the frequency spectrum.

Most guitar players never learn this language, just as most never learn the language of musicians, i.e., standard notation.

If you learn this universal vocabulary, you will be miles ahead of other players in your ability to sculpt the sound of your guitar.
