Gotta put your priorities in order, Hop, sans misgivings. I'm sure the world looked alot better all around when this project first got off the ground. Thanks to the powers that be, we're all digging out from under, so some things have to go on the back burner....for a time. As you observed...$5K+ can go a long way for many things.

BTW: What's that toy of yours in the formfitting case down below your handle. Have you spoken of it before :?:

Doc.

Gotta good chuckle at those photos of Burton and Kramer. :P :P

We must look as good to them as they do to us.

Yes Doc, I've talked about it before. It's my 07 MIA Deluxe Ash Strat that I bought just before the Gilmour bug infected me. I still play it from time to time. I've been playing with my American Standard Tele the last few days. The only tele I've ever owned. I still would like to go to FU though but can't get the wife to see the sense in it, one day?

France and Italy are going to take precedence on this end. ....among others.

Great idea Doc. There are other things in life other than guitars. That's what I've have been strongly advised! :)

Thanks Gratz for the pictures... I can only dream. On a side note was that you in the Namm show video with the Fender lounge shirt ? I believe you were talking to Mr. Fullerton and Brad Traweek was behind you...

If they ever do Fender High School I might be able to go...

Consider that program 'continuing education'. from what I've gleaned from this group, most of the members of this Forum hold bachelors, masters and doctorates in this discipline.

Lucky to be able to say I was at Fender U 2. What a great time we had including seeing Gratz and Mike Sanchez again. Here's the letter I sent to John Dreyer, Events Director at Fender. I think it touches all the bases:

John, Hi!

I just sent you my questionaire today. Everything was 5+ of course. Last time was great but this was far. better. Don't know how you guys can match it again, much less exceed it. The bar is set VERY high now. Of course, there are still, let's see, Buddy Guy, Mark Knopfler, Eric Johnson....who knows who you might pull out next time!

If you were trying to promote a sense of the "Fender Family", you have succeeded overwhelmingly. There were more hugs than handshakes at the end of the session. You and the rest of the staff obviously worked your butts off, but were always pleasant, helpful, and were obviously enjoying the whole program (not to overlook the considerable musical skills of the staff either). The musical skills of the artists were spectacular, but their "people skills" were first class too. Not just approachable, but actively seeking us out to talk, encourage us, and teach us what they could. An example would be Gary Hoey: even though Paul Blackwell was in a different class group, Gary took him aside for an individual hour tutorial on soloing. Greg Koch was superb and hilarious in equal amounts. Wolf Marshall was my instructor and as we all knew, was a superb guitar player and instructor. What we found out was that he is also a truly fine and engaging person. I'll make a point of meeting up with him in Carlsbad where he lives, to watch one of his weekend gigs, and to get some one-on-one lessons too. Willy Porter, Reggie Hamilton, Curt Bisquera, Tony Franklin were teriffic and I can now count them as friends. G.E. Smith, James Burton, Gary Hoey, Phil Collin, Willy Porter, John 5 were all mind-blowing performers. Robert Knight, Eddie Kramer and Tom Wheeler each gave us fascinating peeks into the personalities and history of rock and roll that few are fortunate to get. The highlights were numerous: GE Smith and James Burton trading licks, Greg Koch noodling away on a vintage 'Tele at the Fender Museum, John 5 giving each of us an individual 5-10 minute lesson, and so on. My personal incredible highlight was playing and singing Susie Q with Wolf Marshal with Reggie on base, Curt on drums, and with James Burton in the audience....for everything else, there's Mastercard!

I don't know WHEN I'll be able to attend again, I only know that I will.

Pass on my heart-felt thanks and admiration to Richard (da Man!), Jennifer, Emery, Bob, Nick, Ryan, and the other great folks that I'm forgetting now, and of course to you, John.

Sincere thanks and regards,

Norm Willis
