I have a Bluesbird with a Fender Corona stamp on the headstock. Is there any reference information available that connects serial #'s to production dates?

Yes - Thanks for the suggestion - I've been to the Guild and Fender websites with no luck. My S/N starts with CM and the last documented Bluesbird I can find was made in 1997 with CL as the last letter designation. Some say that the Bluesbirds made in Corona were done in the custom shop - at least during start up - to get the tooling right. I'm just wondering what the history really is and how to find the documentation.

The page I mentioned before has the following:

Quote:
Two other highly reliable resources for dating Guild instruments are The Guild Guitar Book and Gruhn’s Guide to Vintage Guitars, both of which are excellent references that often prove helpful with questions regarding dating, specifications and historical context of many Guild instruments.

You maybe able to find these in a large library.

And as a last resort the page - http://www.guildguitars.com/support/contact_us.php - recommends contacting FMIC Customer Relations. It can't hurt.

Another quality suggestion... And this time you hit the jackpot (What do we have for him, Johnny?). I got a response from Fender in less than 24 hours with 15 additional pieces of information I wouldn't have guessed they would have had on a one-of from the the custom shop. Now I not only have the peace of mind (its a 2002) but I think I got an excellent price. Also (here's a joke on me that I wouldn't tell if I knew you) I was contemplating "upgrading" the pickups; turns out that it came stock with the Seymour Duncans I had in mind. What an ear. Well it just goes to show that I fit squarely in the same category into which I throw all the guys who are convinced that they have to have vintage capacitors.

Anyway thanks again for your help and suggestions. Also for the reading the directions on the page that specified the best resource. Those morons must have omitted it from the page I loaded (more humor on me).

You're welcome. Always glad to be of some assistance to a fellow guitarist.
