I’m sure this has been said but I feel it bears repeating. Most killings with guns are not by law abiding citizens that carry guns. Citizens that went through the proper channels to obtain their weapons. Most killings are done by criminals who did not purchase their weapons legally, but rather out of the trunk of some other criminals car. Taking guns away from law abiding citizens because the criminals use illegally obtained guns to kill is like taking away my right to drive my car because some people drive drunk and reckless.

probably the worst case in history was by a guy over here who "was" a legal gun owner , pillar of the community, who went on to take the lives of a classroom full of primary school kids

I believe you're referring to Thomas Hamilton. In March of 1996 he killed 16 kids and thier teacher in Dunblane Scotland before killing himself.

This guy obviously had issues and people knew it.

Not exactly a pillar of the community.

If someone else with a gun had been there, maybe the death toll would have been much less.

I am a retired Naval Officer. I have been shot at (and hit) and fired at other human beings (and hopefully hit). I firmly believe in possessing weapons for my defense because I am certain there are people out there that would take advantage of my lack of a weapon. And believe me, I would have absolutely ZERO qualms about shooting to kill to defend myself or my loved ones. I know that for a fact - I have done it. But that doesn't make me a danger to society.

And all of us on both sides of the pond have the ability to chat about guitars on this forum because a whole lot of people before us were willing to do the same thing.

Come try to take my guns....

Been there on many things you said troublecall and I could not agree with you more. If they ever try to come get yours let me no theres power in numbers. Even today a group of almost of 50 Democrats in congress published a letter they sent to Obamas Attorney General asking him to not bring up the the Clinton's Ban on so called assault weapons that was alowed to lapes because in was shown to be a waste and meaningless to crime becasue the owners of such weapon are not the ones doing wrong and the percetage of these guns used in crime was next to nothing. And they where the Dems.

I understand this may be a risky post, and sorry if it is.. But I've just been thinking. How many people here own a firearm of some sort - I'd be interested to hear.

My father is an avid shooter and is friends with someone who works for Purdy's in London (some of the finest rifles in the world, prices are an average of £150,000 - they supply to kings and queens, celebrities and just general rich asses).

He took me there for my 18th Birthday, and we went down to the storage room, where I held the Queen of England's rifle (Oh My God), the king of Greece's, among others. And then.. (some of you may not believe this) out of the corner of my eye I saw a box saying "Eric Clapton". What can I say - my mouth dropped.

My Pop's friend said I could have a look at it but not touch it as it was in the process of being built. What a beautiful rifle. Amazing engraving, perfect wood cut and a great great memory for me to hold on to!

I thought I'd just share that with people - It's something I forget now and then but it's really quite something!!!

E.D.

ED , bro , very cool story , thanks for sharing !

Mr. ripitup555

As a matter of fact I am a retired Federal Law Inforcement Officer. I have handled many fire arms in my career. As well as many "Bad Guys" worldwide with firearms pointed in my direction with ill intent. I guess I'm lucky they missed.

My friend, I can tell you for a fact it is better to have a firearm and not need it than the inverse.

As far as joining a club goes, I guess I belonged to a pretty big one for 20 plus years.

I think it would be best to dry out a little behind the ears before you make statements like you have.

Here in the United States it is a right for the public to own firearms. It is a little something we wrote up as an ammendment to the constitution after we sent "your" lot packing. Bush up on your History son.

Now go play in the street and mind the cars Mate!
