How true. Before I got my CCW permit I carried openly. It's legal in Vegas but not North Las Vegas. Anyway, I walk into a Taco Bell one day and this young guy is just berating the girl behind the counter because he had to much sour cream on his taco or something. So his friend sees me walk in with my 1911 strapped on and starts tapping his buddies shoulder and telling him to cool it. They must have thought I was a cop because he quit yelling at her and left.

Most likely nothing. If they had guns, legally, they probably would not have been the type to harass that girl the way they did and that scenario would not have happened. If they had guns illegally do you really think they would have started shooting just because someone that they most likely thought was a police officer walked in the door? Even if they didn't think I was an officer I never said a word to them and most likely would not have either. Just because I carry it doesn't give me any right to intervene in petty arguments or other B.S. like that and I don't. People need to understand that properly licensed, trained, and law abiding individuals that choose to carry are not a threat to them or anyone else and we don't go around acting like vigilanties looking for trouble. We do everything we can to avoid it through training and awareness. Some people fear guns and that is their right but don't try to spread that fear with statements that imply if everyone has guns there is going to be a bloodbath. Ask any historian the truth about the old west when everyone had a gun or a rifle and they will tell you just how exagerated the stories of that era really are. Sure, there were outlaws that killed people in that era just as there are now but it was not all out chaos and people probably did have much better manners.

Like I said previously Ripitup, the myths of the old west are just that. Myths. And if you rely on the media for the facts your perception is definitely short on facts. Yes, atrocities happen, here and in the U.K. and everywhere else for that matter but banning guns is not the answer. If someone is bent on killing they will find a way to do it and then what? Ban bricks because some guy caved his neighbors skull in with one? What you rarely hear in the news is how someone stopped a crime like a home invasion because they were armed and trained for the situation and didn't even have to fire a shot because the presence of a weapon was enough to deter the intruder. Stop and get the facts and look at the whole picture before you make blanket statements condeming people for owning firearms.

How many of those massacres could have been stopped if a legal firearm was in the hands of someone there. I have been shot at one time by a group of four youths two with firearms and my Father was shot in the side under his arm. If I had been permited to carry one of the many arms that I own canceled I have no doubt I would have dropped two of the four because of My training I have had, instead all I could do is pull My Dad over to cover until they stopped. Police never caught them but I no I would have got at least two and they would not have done that again and I have no problem with that.

No offense taken Ripitup. I respect your opinion and your right to express it. It's just a passionate issue and I wish people could get together and agree on the facts without editing by the media and have a true and thoughtful debate on the subject. There is such a thing as common sense gun control and I really believe that if every gun owner had to go through the same background checks and training that I did to get a CCW it would be a step in the right direction. I also believe that a gun owner should be required to have a permanently installed safe that can't be carted off to open elswhere to retrieve the weapons inside. Keeping guns out of the hands of criminals is not just the governments problem. People have to take control of this issue and do what can be done or things will never change.

Here's how I see it......

I live in Arizona. We have rattlesnakes. Rattlesnakes bite. I wish there were no rattlesnakes. Unfortunately there will always be rattlesnakes. There is nothing I can do about it. I have to be responsable around them.

We live in a world with guns...etc, etc, etc.

Let's stop $@!&* whineing about them.

At least your State allows CCW sadly Maryland say you can apply but no one gets them except pepole who's job require one or business owners who can proof they handle large sums of money on a daily bassis by keeping record of deposits. And there not even gimmes. If you apply for one as personel protection they send you the letter that it is not deemed neccessary. The law here is set up with no stated requirments its at the judgment of the state on a individual basis as they put it.

It's quite the opposite here. Our county sheriffs are responsible for permits and the law says that the state shall issue a permit unless there is a specific disqualifying reason not to. Nevada also recognizes some other states permits too as long as the approval and training process is at least equal to ours. It should also be noted that not one person issued a permit in any state has ever been arrested or convicted of a gun crime. A stat backed up not only by the N.R.A. but also the C.D.C. and Gun Control Inc. I think that speaks volumes for the process we go through to get a permit.
