Funny thing is that Gibson's are made in the US, and it's not a bolt together guitar. Melody Makers and the faded series are still affordable as are some SG's. You can still get some Gibby's for under $1500. The Melody Makers are pretty sweet and the necks are still finished by hand. I'm not a Gibson or Fender guy, even though I own both. I'm just a guitar guy.

bro , my first solid body electric guitar was a supro duo-tone '62 .

I still have my 63 Supro Martinique reso glass with the piezo pup in the bridge. I've had it for for over 40 years. I got it when I was 11 years old. I just used it at a jam last week. The other guys were just blown away by it. It's still an amazing sounding guitar. It plays like a Gibby fretless wonder.

They just don't really feel or sound right for me. I still wouldn't buy one.

I play and own all kinds of guitars. I couldn't even think of playing one type or manufacturer of an instrument. different guitars can inspire you to play differently and more creatively. I don't own two of the same model guitar from any company. That's just me though. Whatever floats yer boat is all cool. :D

If Gibson lowered their prices by 30%, then they would be a little closer to what they're actually worth. Charging as much as they do for a basic (albeit pretty) guitar, is far too much in my opinion.

To me, that same tone can be had with any decent guitar with good humbuckers, and even the same pickups if you wanted to. It's just a generic humbucker tone to me. Most of the tone comes from the amp anyway. I can get a more "Les Paul"-like sound from my Peavey Tracer with Dimarzio's on it, through my Rectoverb than anyone would get with a true Les Paul on a lesser amp.

And, if they were that much cheaper, I'd still have no interest at all in buying one.

I agree and would like to add, even with a 30% reduction, they'd still be overpriced.
