If Gibson lowered their prices by that much they would be out of business real fast. Then who would we be able whine about? (Actually, that's a good question. I wonder what guitar manufacturer would be next on our *&%T list?)

I prefer my Strat to anything (electric) I've played from Gibson.

I would buy another Fender. I have owned Gibson in the past and perfer the Fender brand. If they lowered their prices by 30% and I had the dough; I'd buy the Dave Murray Sig. Stratocaster.

As for PRS, for some reason they just don't appeal to me. The feel is not quite right, especially the SE's.

I did try a single cut that was okay--but I'll stick with what I have over paying too much for one of those.

It would be nice if everybody dropped their prices.

If you want a Gibson--look for used & non-vintage--although some sellers seem to think those should be sold for even more than the new ones.

I have not owned a Gibson since 1979 when a les Paul cost $480 OTD with a Hard Case!
Now they are $2000 to $7000 and IMHO no where near as good as they were back then!

Just priced to high for me! Keep it up Fender maybe I purchased my last Fender too!
Yoo Hoo! Mr. Ibanez May I take a look at. . . . . . . .

I don't think Gibson's quality control is any worse than Fender's. When I ordered a brand-new AVRI Jazzmaster from Fender Europe (I'm in the UK) in 2007, I had to reject the first two they sent because of a dozen or so wood chips UNDER THE LACQUER on the back of the first guitar and body bruises and lacquer dents to the second. These were both brand new guitars, fresh out of the shipping carton, built only a couple of months previously. I was not impressed. The third Jazzmaster was beautiful, so all's well that ends well.
I own two Gibson acoustics: a Songbird acoustic from 2001 and a Hummingbird True Vintage VOS from 2008. Stunning guitars both, visually and sonically. I also tried the J45 VOS and a few other Gibson acoustics when I was looking last year and they were all great instruments.
I know this is a Fender forum and all, so a certain bias is to be expected, but from my experience Gibson do a good job. And its Lifestyle website is pretty cool, too - those Lessons of the day are an incredible learning resource.
I'm not a Gibson fan-boy in any way, but credit where credit's due. Still love my 1970s silverface Champ (my main recording amp, small but perfectly formed), but c'mon - Fender is hardly covering itself with working-man's glory with the whole mega-bucks vintage reissue schtick, with battered (sorry, relic) guitars and amps.

I think Guitars in general are expensive, i was and still am looking into a gibson firebird with the reverse headstock. I was looking at a esp kh2 but that guitar is 2grand easy, and lets not forget those replica evh guitar for 25 grand lol.

I just purchased a jim root tele and while it was lower than the msrp i paid 720 and its still expensive.

$480???
Where--around here they cost way more than that--if they cost tat much here--I'd have another one.

By all means check out Ibanez--they make more than the shred/metal type guitars--and some of them are very nice.

I wouldn't give up on Fender either.

As I said above--if you want a Gibson--find a nonvintage used one.

I still couldn't afford a Standard, But I'd finally own an Amber Burst Studio Les Paul. And get me that ES 335.

Funny thing is that Gibson's are made in the US, and it's not a bolt together guitar. Melody Makers and the faded series are still affordable as are some SG's. You can still get some Gibby's for under $1500. The Melody Makers are pretty sweet and the necks are still finished by hand. I'm not a Gibson or Fender guy, even though I own both. I'm just a guitar guy.

The Gibson CS-336 line is sonically wonderful, light and sweet...semi-hollow and fairly affordable on the bay.
