I am ready for the backlash, I own three FENDERS, but I just bought an OVATION acoustic. I was wondering wondering what are some good, fairly easy acoustic songs.
I am learning PINK FLOYD WISH YOU WERE HERE. A little tough, however I am getting it.

P.S. Is it true that FENDER owns KAMAN INSTRUMENTS, who makes OVATION?

Don't worry so much, this forum is tolerant of other brands.

I like "Mr. Jones" by Counting Crows.

No, Fender does not have any part in the making of Ovations, though, I agree, they are quite nice.

Yes, Fender did buy Kaman Instruments back in 2007. It was announced in October and the transaction took place at the end of December. They run it as a separate company.

A friend of mine is thinking of trading me his Ovation Standard Balladeer - at least he thinks that's what it is - I'll find out in the next few weeks. :P

Good luck with your new guitar and in learning Wish You Were Here . There's nothing wrong in owning and loving some other brand of guitar or bass.

You can try Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton - check out http://12bar.de/index.php for Clapton material and http://www.justinguitar.com/ for some of the beginner lessons - he has tabs of a few songs - nothing too tough.

Edit: Ok, Gil just stated below that Fender does own Kamen... so nevermind about that last bit.

Ovations are my favorite acoustics(sorry Fender).

Good songs for acoustic? Anything by Neil Young, Beatles, folk music. Never tried any Pink Floyd on acoustic, but why not?

I read the article about FENDER buying KAMAN, pretty cool.
This OVATION plays like a dream. I have never owned an acoustic that sounded so pretty, clean and clear.[img]

I have seen this guitar in a pawn shop, they actually had two. Get this:
One had two huge cracks from the saddle to the bottom edge of the guitar.
For this the price tag was $395.00(marked down from 495.00. The other undamaged one was 295.00
??????/??
Hard to figure that one
Anyway, have fun with it I am sure you will like it.

I'd agree that Dylan, Neil Young and Beatles is a good place to start -- they have many great tunes written for acoustic guitar.

Another idea is to adapt some bluesy tunes you know to the acoustic. You can do some very interesting stylings once you're used to not having pups, sustain and amplification to create a fair part of the sound. I'm biased in that I love to play old time rural blues and heard a lot of folk in my early guitar years, but it's terrific training in using your fingers and attack to get all the sound you want.

These are pretty straight forward - and fun songs to learn.
