Ok... I see a ton of "Best" topics on this forum, of which I'm not interested in, for they are usually all the same. But now what I'm asking, for this is a different matter completely, what is the most artful song or artist?

For me, the song is "Neon" by John Mayer, because it has intricate and musical guitar, and the lyrics are poetry, and I especially like the EP version, 'cause it's more raw than the album version.

The artist is a toss up: Jack Johnson, 'cause he, to me, if I could visualize a painting to go along with him, it would be a Hawaiian sunset. Also, Casting Crowns, because their music is pure, christian, and heartfelt. It's very poetic, and I saw these guys live, I didn't hear one mistake, and their drummer is a plain BEAST.

I am a fan of his heavier stuff.

As far as Christian based music, I think CC has it pegged.

I'm going top have to take this opportunity to plug Kurt Cobain. His playing was not artful so much, but his lyrics were something else. He really knew how to paint a picture with words. Same with John Lennon IMHO. Both were really artists my nature who used music as an outlet of their creativity.

Wrong song, dude. You quoted "Say," which is admittedly irritating. The OP referenced "Neon," which is wicked cool.

For pure poetry-to-music for its own sake, 'am still smitten by Richard Harris ' "Mac Arthur Park."

Artist has to be Bob Dylan. Nobody writes lyrics like he does.

Song: I have a toss up between Bon Jovi's "Bed of Roses" and Jimmy Buffett's "A Pirate Looks at Forty".

My personal favorite at the moment would be "Chinese Organ Theives" by Finch. The wild vocals, obscure yet poetic lyrics, and the odd tempo changes make it quite unique.

Ooh, ooh, wait.

'Anyone remember Ars Nova, a Renaissance / Classical rock group from the late 60s? 'Think they did two albums.

"Pavanne For My Lady" was incredible.
