There's no good answer to this unless yoiu're very dialed into one sound. look, feel, etc. I can't see either is better and have I have some of each, as well as a couple of (pre-Fender) Guilds and even an old Ibanez bass. They're all different and in my hands, work "best" for some combination of style, song and mood.

In "your" hands ... might be a whole different story! I can pick up my Showmaster with the twin Duncans and sound like mellow jazz -- one of my employees at work will sound virtually as much the shredder as he does on his LP. But now let me pick up his LP and I'll sound like - yep, you guessed, mellow jazz.

I think about the only thing we can say with any certainty is that Fender makes quality guitars that in general cost less than Gibsons due probably in part to volume as much as construction technology.

Go to the Gibson Forum, you'll see this thread is a hoax.

Gibson guitars are different than Fender guitars. With that being said, they both have their good and bad points. They both have different sounds, different weights, and different specifications. One better than another; no, just played for different reasons.

Imho, for the money yes. Even looking at it from an absolute point of view, I've got to go with Fender. If you look at the people who play Fenders, from Clapton to Mayer to SRV to Hendrix to you name it, these guys could play any guitar. Also, even though now they're wired into the Custom Shop, in the day they played off the shelf stuff. Strats are like a supernatural step forward in guitar design. They have so many things that are fantastic from the double cutaway to the contoured body to the low bridge. Personally, I sit down to play a Gibson and it just bugs me because it's got this very high bridge with the strings way up above the body, which is totally unlike an acoustic or a Fender. A Gibson will overdrive an amp easier, but a Strat can definitely overdrive any decent amp, and with the HSS you get the humbucker sound. The other thing is lightweight. Fenders made from Alder have fantastic tone and the light weight. I just don't want to spend my hard-earned money on anything else, for playability. I admit the Slash LP is a really sweet sounding guitar, but so is my Highway One with the CS Tx Specials. You know, speaking of it, I gotta go.

Yes if Fender made a 9mm I would sell my Glock and buy one.
It would have to have Maple Grips though because it makes for a much 'brighter' Bang then the rosewood version. :)

They are both great in their own rights. Not better, just different.

I agree and it's up to each one's taste to pick one or the other ;)

Fender is different than Gibson (and verse-visa) -- no better, no worse.
I own and use both.

Depends on my mood. Some days I reach for the Strat, other days I reach for the LP.

Not all though. And I prefer My 40cal S&W's (Baretta Model 96's) over My 45 cal ( glock G21) but they are both fine indeed. :D
