They are both great in their own rights. Not better, just different.

Subjective questions are not appropriate when one wishes an objective answer.

If you had asked, "amps," there is basis for an objective answer, because Fender amps in general have the world's best overall reputation, whereas Gibson's amp line was inconsistent and did not endure and flourish from inception to present day.

For the subject of guitars, the query is not applicable.

the one likes more the sound, handling etc of the gibson, the other more fender and others also both.

both companies produces good gear but your ear, heard, needs, desires will decide.

cheers :D

Which came first, the chicken, or the egg ?

Are you a Fender man or a Gibson man ? Woah, I've been hearing this since I started playing in 1963 and I'm still hearing it now and it will go on and on.......
Well I happen to be both and I switch between them and others.
I have no ' best ', they all do different jobs in accord with the song and sound requirements demanded of same.
It's a question that only you can answer.....for yourself.
If not......
It's the unanswerable question.

I personally own/have owned guitars by several companies. A lot of times it is hard to make a direct comparison. If you consider Fender and Gibson they really have pretty divergent product lines. They don't tread on each others preferred scale lengths. This means there is a very different feel to each companies guitars. Fender tends way more to jangly, well Fender sounds. Gibson tends to make way more guitars with the thick humbucker type tones.

It almost seems that each knows that it has a certain sector of the market, and that they leave each other alone, to try to not upset the apple cart as it were.

It is easier to compare products if they build to more similar specs.

My take on the Fender Gibson thing is, boy my Strat and my buddies LP sure sound good together, we fill out different parts of the tonal range.
So complimentary.

I'm a Fender person  But I heard each guitar maker has it's own individuality.

There is several good guitar companies. And many guitar models that are not Fenders that are fine instuments. I just wish I could own one of each.

Its kind of apples and oranges and comes down to each players subjective taste.
I prefer Fenders and have really never felt comfortable playing a Gibson.
Also the majority of the players that inspire me play Fender as well but I certainly appreciate what some players can do with a Les Paul or SG.
And many of the Gibson instruments are as beautiful as Fenders.
But I wouldnt Go so far as to say one or the other is 'better'.

Id like to add that though Gibson is known for its hotter humbucker tone I did have the opportunity about six months ago to play my friend Dale's 1969 LesPaul for about four weeks straight during a re occurring gig.
Believe it or not I ran it clean through a mic'ed little Fender Pro Junior.
Stunning clean tone.

If you like Jimi Hendrix, Psychedelic Beatles or Early Led Zeppelin (Yes jimmy Page played a Telecaster before a Gibson) then i suggest fender.

I like Fender Strats personally and will continue playing them, Even if i become famous i will not pick up a Gibson.

Gibson is good for metal.

To hell with political correctness - I could care less who I offend. YES FENDER IS BETTER THAN GIBSON!!! there I said it. , remember, you're in "THE" Fender Forum. Oh by the way, I prefer a .45 over a 9mm as well.

It all depends on what you mean by "better".

Fenders are "better" for me because:
I prefer the scale length
I prefer the string spacing
I think they are more comfortable to play

Others will have different opinions and thats cool, it's all about personal preference.

Gibsons are well made and great sounding gutiars too. Play what you like.
