I found a leslie speaker cab on craigslist. I hear really good things about them and I hear they can get some killer sounds out. The asking price is $ 300 is this a good deal? I have no experience with these things.

If the horn and speed control etc. is working good I'd buy it!

Didn't Clapton and George Harrison use the Leslie rotary speaker back in the late sixties, early seventies ? ( I'm not sure )
Cheers.

The rotating middle8 of Badge is a leslie. I was offered one a year ago for £250. The things enormous, youd make 2 trips to get your guitar, amp and leslie to a gig unless you've a big van.

Yea, those things are quite large. For something like that though, most likely worth it.

I know Clapton used one, and he had one in his rig at the Cream reunion...

The sound quality (unless your a diehard vintage authentic tonehound) isnt worth the agro of owning one and storing it. They are great for drying laundry though.

Its easier to use a pedal for the same effect.

Hello Aldric_m,

Last time I played thru a leslie
was around '77 when a friend
of mine got one for his band.
I thought it was a super neat
treat to play thru, oddly it was
only around a short time and
dissappeared. We had some
fun with it.

Those were the days.

Cheers.

Hey Gang-

I use a Dunlop RotoVibe and get much of the same tone and effect as the Leslie- The pedal works like a wah so you get lots of control right at your feet.- I haul my own gear and my Amp weighs enough- I would go with a pedal.

A Hammond B3 running through a Leslie,
Sigh, I'd be willing to throw something out like the couch to make room for that pair.
http://www.theatreorgans.com/grounds/docs/history.html

Can't believe a lot of bands used to schlep that thing to gigs.
Soo many dingy bars, soo much beer, man I think I am suddenly missing the 60's. Oh and soo broke but no one cared :D

Yes a pedal is a lot easier, and some of them are quite good, I've got the Boss RT-20 and a stereo chorus for that. For best effect the stereo signal needs to run into two amps separated by many feet.

Though if Fender made a Vibratone again, I'd probably be out buying it :D (Future GAS ?)
