Hallo can anyone help me with a few problems I have with Strat
Nr 1 The sixth string is hard to tune after I tuning it in open key with a tuner I find that
an Octiv higher it’s out of tune.
Nr 2 When I use the tremolo arm it knocks on the woodwork underneath and I can’t
find a way to adjust it, .
Many thanks Mac Watts

Hi Forries: try this:

http://www.amazon.com/Guitar-Player-Rep ... 849&sr=8-1

The best few bucks you will ever spend on your guitar.

Good luck - C

Try adjusting the claw screws. The holes of the trem underneath should line up with the back plate. Good luck.

I have never had a back plate line up the holes in the trem block with a proper setup. That is one of the reasons I always just remove the back plate.

I've accumulated a collection of backplates over the years as well. I dont know what to do with them, I just put them on guitars I sell.

Perhaps turn the tuners slower while tuning...seriously, it takes many turns to be an octave higher than you should be, and its a wonder the string didn't break...unless I am totally misunderstanding what is happening...

Also, make sure you have the correct trem arm for your trem...if you bought the guitar in a store, they often don't put the bars in, and when someone buys a guitar with a trem, they just go in back and grab one...

And as others suggested, it may not hurt to get it looked at by a professional...

On my 3 strats its always out of place too. The claw needs to be balanced to the string tension which favours the treble side. That leads to the claw being further in and likewise the block too.

It's hard to pinpoint the exact cause and fix in your problem without having it to examine, so all we can do is make recommendations...and some good ones have been mentioned.

Good luck!

Presumably you mean that when you fret it on the 12th fret it's out of tune? If so, you need to adust the position of the saddle on the bridge, which adjusts teh relatiev length of the string bridge-to-nut and bridge-to-twelfth-fret. Try it and see!

PS: Obviously you need to adjust the horizantal position if teh saddle, not the vertical position.

I'm sure this was all the OP was talking about. Not quite certain how backplates got involved...!?

Far as the the trem block knocking on wood is concerned: it depends whether we're talking about that happening on extreme down bends, or up bends, or just when the trem is returning to zero.

Actually, it shouldn't be hitting timber in any of those situations. But if it is doing so around the zero point it could suggest that the trem needs to be set to float, with the little gap beneath the back of the plate - that might be just enough to solve the issue. Or things might be more serious - further info is required.

Either way, the aforementioned book will help, though this may be a case for a visit to a decent tech. As Mr Hopkins suggested at the start!

Cheers - C
