Did you know that Guitar Center buys and sells used equipment? I just found out. I'm going to see if I can cut a deal on a MIA Deluxe Strat for a telecaster of the same quality. I want at least one tele in my arsenal! It can be done online. At least getting a quote from them.

Yes, I did know that. Something for you to be aware of is:

If the guitar sells new for $2,000, The minute you walk out the door with it it is only worth $1,000, So GC will offer you $500.

Well they will be wasting their time then Chet. I treat my guitars like babies, not a scratch on it anywhere. I'll just keep it and buy a new tele!
I've never dealt with them anyway! :?

What worries me about them is how many weekend warriors have fooled around with them. I've always been the first to take mine out of the box!

I guess the Dark Side is feeling the depression too!!

Alwaysstrat almost has me brainwashed into trying a Highway One Tele because I don't want to spend top dollar for a tele that I might not like anyway. I've always loved Strats!

They will make you an offer used wholesale based upon what they sell that guitar for used retail less the profit margin they work with. Unless you sell privately you cannot come out ahead on the deal unless you're working for something really high end. I could have probably traded even exchange for my Gilmour with the two guitars I gave them but I didn't push it, so it cost me $800. I actually wound up lowballing myself. It relieved me of having to go the Ebay route which I did not have time or patience for.

What I would do is checkout Ebay and Craig's list to see what they are asking. Shop around and see if you can find an MIA Deluxe on the wall used and check the price. After you've done your homework, browse the Custom Shop price list for retail, and then Wildwood for comparison on Custom Shop Teles. Then go to your dealer and negotiate a buy for a CS guitar and tell them what you want for yours in trade. I'd work first with the people you purchased your Gilmour from.

Doc

Thanks Doc! Some real good advice. I can always count on you. I have no idea why I'm gassing for a tele now. I guess it's because I've never had one . Beats me! :?

Some ten years ago or more I acquired a used '93 TelePlus in great condition. Natural finish, blue lace at the neck, red duals at the bridge, coil splt circuitry. This was no 'country picker'. This was a 'to the wall' rock and roller. I traded it for a used '97 Clapton in equally good condition. I took it to Florida to gig at my drummer's daughter's wedding. I have video of that set.

As much as I liked that Tele, it didn't feel like a Stratocaster. When I say that, all I can used for example is the way that Gilmour feels when you strap it on. And that is all the difference.

Different strokes. 8)

Doc

Fhop.
I realize this discussion has moved from guitars to cullinary delights but please let me interject.
Try out a baja tele. Decent model for the prce and you wont feel hamperd going froma strat's switching to the baja's. It does a reasonable 4th position copy.
Its not CS or masterbuilt or even MIA standard but is a fun tele that is more than playable with a bit of attention.
My only gripe is the lack of compensated saddles and i believe every tele outside of VRI should have those or 6saddle bridges.

Well worth a go.

On a side note, any good recipes? i let the missus cook for me today. I need to give her some pointers
