I have a nephew that started playing heavy metal about a year ago. I also know that he doesn't get all the cheers and support he could or should have from his family. Well maybe playing black death metal is not going to help him be the coolest guy in the family especially when I must be the only one that can cheer him up. Anyway, he is doing his thing and having to start in life with no musical background in his immediate family is sometimes hard on him and I don't get to talk with him often enough to get the hole picture.
So when I can talk with him from time to time I fool around, try to make him laugh and exchange tricks and licks with him. We mostly talk about music because it is the only link that we share but I feel that there is a good connection between us. The other day he was telling me about his likes and dislikes and what he found was cool in music, so I couldn't help but tell him about what I thought was cool in music when I was twenty years old too and I showed him this on youtube and he found it very cool too.

So what do you think, was I cool enough? I think that when he discovered that the old uncle with more musical experience can show exotic, weird, on the edge or whatever you call it musical taste, it brought us a little bit closer on the friendship scale. I still have the vinyl album of that band and this song is not representative of all their work.
So do you wanna share something you though was cool when you were a young lad discovering life?
A good day to you all.
Claude.

Wow, this makes me a bit more proud of my country!
(The whole band is Dutch)
Jan Akkerman (the guitarist) is still one of Holland's best guitarplayers.

since I'm only 15 myself, I can't really tell you what I liked when I was 20, since that's 5 more years away from me. I cán tell you that by listening and learning about as many differents types of music as I can, life gets more and more understandable.

Sorry to hear that the vid is not available, it is here in Canada, but sometimes it is just a country to country access limitation.

Now The Jerm, you have every reason to be proud, I heard that they still tour in 2009 :) but not with Akkerman. :( One of Holland's and the world's best, yes it is.
Claude.
