Why doesn't Fender just start a new series?

Why not just Segregate the 2008 models and call them Fender Standard 2008 models and create the a new Fender Stratocaster with better features and call it an American Standard 2009 and sell the 09 series for 1,200 (1,390 plus tax) and the 08 series for 999$?

Because i seriously do not see how Fender can justify raising the price on the American Standard i was gonna get on Friday and saw it on Guitar center on Monday for $999. Ended up getting a Mexican by the way.

I think my idea would actually make fender more money.

Tell me what you guys think? Fender gets to keep its price increase while the working man can still afford an American Standard.

Fender could have at least waited until all the 08 models were all sold and just stop manufacturing the 08 models and do something different with the 09 models.

The year denotes the actual year the guitar was manufactured and can be deduced form the serial number stamped on its headstock.

An American Standard is an American standard with whatever features and components it had at the time of manufacturer.
A guitar with better features is called an American Deluxe.

However if the AM Standard you were looking at was made in 2008 and delivered to the store before February the price should NOT have been increased on it.

For instance SweetWater still seems to have some old stock American Standards for 999$

Though their new stock is listing around 1300$

This is probably the best response I have heard regarding the Fender price increase on another forum:
I'm constantly amazed when folks scream and stomp and tear their hair out over price increases, particularly in a case like this, where the company involved, Fender, has quite obviously been selling its merchandise for LOW prices for several years.

What makes low prices profitable? Volume sales.

What kills that kind of profit? Economic slowdown.

What is the world economy in the middle of right now?

To be outraged when a company adjusts to the market conditions is to be wasting a lot of angst for no good reason...
