Bros , Jouney or SPjourney , their first three albums, for me, rocked everything after that, for me, was for.... let me know how off or on this observation is.

Wow. Most people think Infinity was their first album. Well done. However, I am an unashamed Journey hater. Neal Schon is ridiculously over-rated. He is a capable guitar player. I will give him that. And, yeah, I know he was discovered at 16 simulateously by Carlos Santana and Clapton. Serious guitar cred there. I don't care. That all adds to how over-rated he is. The dude plays with the emotion of steamed brocoli. Bor-ring. The talent-from-God was in Steve Perry. Perry is arguably one of the best rock singers ever ... but I would rather put a knitting needle through my head than listen to any music he has ever done. Go ahead and call me a hater. I would agree with that assertion of me when it comes to these guys.

GTE , bro you are not a hater , i saw them twice in '75 first at the riviera and second down the street at the aragon and if neal would have kept his soloing under control they maybe could've stayed with that lineup. aynsley dunbar did things with his kit no one touches to this day if you listen to santanas first three albums and are hungry for more you can listen to journeys first three and be satisfied. gregg rollie the most under rated singer keyboardist brings the perspective right into your stereo (or entertainment system) thanks so much bro, much more rock and roll power to you!

Yep, most successful bad band ever. Steve Perry makes me want to puncture my eardrums. :?

For the record, I agree with you on Greg Rollie. He is a good songwriter, and I like his singing. He has some solo stuff out, too, that my brother is heavily into. Have you heard any of that? And, Aynsley Dunbar is a top-shelf drummer, for sure. Yes, the first three Journey albums (before Steve Perry) are all listenable. But, I won't listen to it ... Neal Schon is a big downcheck in my book. Again, I find him very over-rated, with playing that falls more flat than anything.

BTW ... that is cool you saw them in '75.

Im not a big Neil fan either, however, I do like Journey - I listened to them a good bit when I was younger, and much more into drums at the time!

But from a music standpoint, how do you not give the band and Steve Perry credit for awesome songs like, Open Arms, Faithfully, Still They Ride, Lights, Stone in Love, and so on... They do have some good stuff

For the record, I gave Perry credit in my first post to this thread for being possibly the best rock singer ever. But being a great singer does not mean I will like the music. And the songs you listed - for me - make my skin crawl. Open Arms? Faithfully? Please, kill me now. I find it to be well-crafted musical wallpaper. But that is just my opinion, and - to be very clear - I am not stomping on any one else's opinion here. To each their own, and Journey is just not (anything close to being) my cup of tea.

I really liked the first two albums with Rollie & Ansley Dunbar. Way more exploratory. Kohoutek, man! 8)

Not so much the pop hit machine, although I played a LOT of their stuff in the cover band days.
Steve Perry is a fine vocalist, but the material wasn't interesting to my tastes.

When Journey first made it big, LTS was the hit. I thought that was a power non-song. Even though I really consider Journey to be power pop more than rock & roll, I must give them (and SP) credit. LTS tainted them for me to start with. They produced some of the best belly rubbing music of the 80s.

I'm also going to disagree on the case of Mr. Shone. I have recently revisited the Journey catalog to find that Neil played with a lot of soul. The solo on "I'll Be Alright Without You" is one of my favorite slow song solos.

I didn't buy anything from Journey until after the band was on the outs with Steve Perry, but now I do proudly own several of their CDs. And no, I'm not planning on using them for skeet practice. LOL
