During my forty something years of playing, I have heard of and known musicians getting themselves killed by electric shocks.
We spend thousands of dollars, pounds, euros and whatever on equipment but many don't bother too much on spending a little on safety.
So my question is.
What safety devices do you use when playing ?

None that I'm aware of, I've never really thought about this Rhumba. Although, thinking about it now, I'm reminded of Alex Harvey :( Maybe this is something to think about it, cheers.

Not many do Snowy, that's why I asked. I must admit I only use power breakers but on all my plugs and sockets.....

Intact grounds and gear that's in good working order.

And don't try to plug in and play in the hot tub.

My brother is a Industrial construction worker and he gets us the Industrial style power breaker strips to run all of the equipment, boards ect.. That is about it... We have used these for about 10 years or so... Before
that we didnt use anything..

We plug everything into surge protector power strips with EMI/RFI noise reduction. Anyone getting electrocuted won't cause any unwanted noise in the Amps or PA. :|

yea, surge protectors are great. make sure it is in fact a surge protector, and not just a power strip. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. plain old strips aren't protection devices.

oh man, somewhat funny story...i was playin an open mic one night, and when i went to unplug my amp, i was using one hand because the other was holding a pedal. the receptacles on the power strip at this place are kinda tight, so you have to hold it down while pulling the plug out. well, i instead did it one handed and used the back of my hand to hold down the strip while prying the prongs out with my fingers. guess what happened...

ZZAP!

haha, electrocution feels so weird. 2nd time it happened to me. first time was at school in electrical-working class

anyway, outdoor gigs...beware in humidity or rain. try to stay away from the mic's, especially if you are not properly grounded. you will be seriously screwed otherwise

Hello Rhumba,

I'm using a surge protector,
not really for safety but it reduces
line noise as I live underneath a power line.

Cheers.
