My wife and I have both noticed that I tend to get my own case of PMS (Pre Musical Stress) beginning a day or two before important gigs. It expresses itself mostly with inpatience. I don't make a full-time living as a musician. So gigs, rehearsals, personal woodshedding, gear loading and transport must all be squeezed into the time left over from work, commuting, family, church, friends, etc. Seems I'm constantly rushing to "get a million things done" before a show. There is never time to relax because soundcheck always takes longer than expected. I slam a Long Island Iced Tea and step up for the first song.

Although I love to play.. sometimes it seems too much work. But I refuse to stop playing though because I love it so much. Do you experience this?

I always sort of calm down and get all mellow before I preform. It helps to jam a little if you can, even if it's a while before you preform, with whoever's around.

yeah I get the same thing... I get a nervous pit in my stomach...and can't seem to shake it.. I love playing to but it's alot of work to make sure everything is going good with the gig...I think allot of the reason is because the band puts alot of things on my shoulder like talking with the bar owner making sure the band has everthing they need... scheduling practices and what songs were gonna practice etc...if I had a wife or a girl firend Im sure they would say that I have PMS...

I have been playing gigs for 11 years now so the nerves and tension is all gone by now. I just show up and play. The only time i get a little nervous is performing a new song live for the first time. For me playing gigs is stress relief and its my time to escape and just let loose. If it were to become stressful I dont think I would continue.

I also dont get stressed out very easily so that may be part of it. I am real easy going and playing gigs is all good fun for me.

No nerves at a gig anymore. But playing solo and (yuck!) having to sing turns me into a mess. Funny, it goes away after a few minutes of playing.

I get a little nervous beforehand but in a good way. I believe it gives me that "edge" I need to keep me sharp (I hope anyways).

It's the Superbowl every gig. Like the announcers always say: "You just want to get those first few hits out of the way and then you can start to relax and get in the game."

I like to take a nap before a gig, then 3 cups a coffee and I'm ready to Rock'n'Roll. I found that a good nap is good for my voice. Other than that, I'm the same guy I was yesterday. I play coz I like to play and I really ain't intimidated by crowds anymore.

I'm naturally a nervous person sometimes. I always get the butterflies before shows, and I typically don't like to be bothered. I just like to be in my focus/comfort zone.
