I am starting a Refinishing ( Paint ) Shop. I would like to know where I can get paint chip sheets for the old and new fender colors. I remember getting them from any Fender Dealer in the old days, But I haven't seen them in sometime. I have the code's and mix numbers, But I would like something to show customers that have a nice gloss to them. Thank you all in advance. Mike Yuma Az

Hi Mike, welcome to the Forum.

I've never seen anything like that, I'm afraid - let alone the mix codes.

Just bumping this thread in the hope that someone who knows sees it and can reply. Because I'd be most interested in the answer!

Cheers - C

Is it something like a color chart? They're all over the place.

The back of a Fender brochure maybe?

That'd be new colors though, wouldn't it? :?

Not sure if Fender would be willing to share their "secret" color mixes or not. Don't know WHY they wouldn't. It's not like you're going to go into competition with them because you were able to dial in "surf green."

Paint companies these days can scan a color and digitally come up with a "recipe."

Gridlok BTW, I LOVE surf green!!

Sorry, don't seem to be able to edit the "swearing" after "wouldn't". Just a bit of "wonkiness", I guess.

Add together the last letter of "wouldn't" plus the three letters of next word you wrote...

That filter is VERY sensitive!

Thanks for the Help. There is no mystery about the colors old or new, They are Car colors ie. Festa Red is a 1956 Thunderbird Color. I belive that the only in house custom color was Candy Apple Red, there could be more by now. What I am looking for are the chip sheets. Fender had chip sheet's in the 1960's with about 16 colors on it, this is how you picked the color for your guitar unless you fell in love with a color they had in there shop. I can find pictures of them but not a real sheet. Thanks for the help. Mike

Here is a link to a site that will show you the Chip sheets I am lookin for.

Hi again tele60: you are talking about the color charts on that page you linked to, I take it. Tell me, from memory, did those charts consist of samples of each color actually glued on to the main sheet?

If so, I think it most unlikely that you will get such an item from Fender these days (though I'd be delighted to be wrong). Similar sheets to that used to be commonly available from artists' "colormen" (makers of pigments): nowadays you can only get the visually less reliable printed sheets over the counter. If you want a sheet of genuine samples you usually have to order it and pay heftily for the privilage.

Very expensive to produce those things.

I'm sure you know about the color chart on this website:

http://www.fender.com/resources/colors/

By all means email Customer Services, but I suspect you will be refered to that online chart. Perpexingly, it doesn't contain all Fender's colors by a long shot, and even more surprisingly colors come and go from it on an ongoing basis. For example, I see no Sonic Blue there at present, even though a Strat with that finish is currently available in the catalog.

No doubt, keen-eyed folks can spot several other familiar Fender colors not listed there at the moment.

Strange...

Cheers - C

Ceri. You sound like you know the Fender site well. Up until lately I've been stuck with dial-up, so trying to get this site to load was pure folly.
Yes the Colors charts were the kind with real paint chips attached to them, but your right the cost today would not allow fender to send them to dealers. I will keep looking around maybe there are some after market companys still sending out charts.
And No I did not know of the color chart on this site, at least it's sort of up to date, I keep an eye on it.
Thanks again and enjoy the day. Mike
