I'm going to throw a monkey wrench into the gears and use live albums/concert dvd's. To see and hear the music performed "in the flesh", so to speak, reminds me of the sheer power of it.

1. Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood
Live From MSG
2. Eric Clapton
24 Nights
3. Pink Floyd
Pulse
4. Jeff Beck
Live From Ronnie Scott's
5. AC/DC
Live (from Castle Donington)
6. Nirvana
MTV Unplugged In New York (It amazed me to hear that level of musical craftsmanship from a band that, even though I was a fan, I considered to be overrated)
7. Van Halen
Live Without a Net
8. Led Zeppelin
The Song Remains the Same
9. Jimi Hendrix
Wild Blue Angel: Live From the Isle Of Wight
10. Stevie Ray Vaughan
Austin City Limits

I couldnt say I dont like them. I heard them once and they didnt grab me. If something hasnt got my attention in fifteen seconds, the band are never going to. It just becomes background music for something else thats grabbed my attention.
Doesnt their head honcho play a Heavy Metal telecaster?

1. Kiss- Destroyer- The 1st album(8 track actually) that was all mine!

2. Journey- Escape- Listened to Don't Stop Believin before every junior high baseball and basketball game.

3. Dio- Holy Diver- The album that cemented my fate as a metal head!

4. Judas Priest- Screaming for Vengence- 2nd album, same as above.

5. Van Halen- 1984- Purchasing it postponed my 1st date with my wife because after buying it I had no money. We're still married 25 years later.

6. AC/DC- Back in Black- Do I need to explain?

7. Rush- Signals- My mom mistakenly bought if for me one year for Christmas when I was in HS, I wasn't a huge Rush fan then. I totally dig Rush now. Mom has been gone since 1996 and I still think of her every time I listen to this.

8. Scorpions- Blackout- No one like you was the song playing in my car the first time I kissed my girlfriend/ future wife.

9. Keb Mo- Totally got me into the blues. I springboarded off this into Chicago Blues, Delta Blues, Piedmont Blues and everything else.

10. Metallica- Black Album- See Back in Black at no. 6 on the list.

Elvis Presley - Not sure what album actually, just remember my mom playing his stuff and wanting to be a rock star. When your that age... a tennis racket makes for a great Axe. We didn't have Guitar Hero, we had a tennis racket which didn't interface with Pong so you had to use your imagination.

The Beatles
- Magical Mystery Tour - My brother introduced me to cool music and my love for rock grew

Pink Floyd The Wall - Again, my brother had a big influence on my musical taste. I fell in love with that album on the first listen and i remember thinking how cool and different it was because it told a compelling story along with such great music... and you could see a movie of it too.

Def Leppard High and Dry
- Discovered Heavy Rock

Tom Petty and The HB's Pack up the Plantation Live - I just thought that was such a cool album.

Van Halen 1984 - Holy cow... I NEED to learn to do that

Iron Maiden Live After Death - I was never a fan of heavy metal, so this completely changed my attitude. Still my ALL time favorite live album. Anyone looking for a great rock album and at all interested in this band should check this out.

Queensryche Operation Mindcrime Ahhh, the concept album is alive and well. A great tip of the hat to Pink Floyd the Wall, a compelling story, awesome music, fantastic imagery. Love it.

Rush - Exit Stage Left
- Was a big fan of the Moving Pictures album growing up but for some reason just didn't delve deeper... this album made me regret not ever paying more attention to them.

Rush 2112 - Why hadn't i heard that album before... yet another concept album and one of my favorites. I think i heard it sitting in a chair in the dark zoned out after party and didn't move for the entire 22 min piece, when it was done I couldn't believe what i Just witnessed.

oh there's many more but that's my quick brainstorm.

hey all,
I just went through this whole post & was glad to see the Sex Pistols mentioned numerous times. To be brutally honest, they were musically 'challenged' but with incredible energy.

kinda sad to see Ramones and Aerosmith only mentioned once. :(

1 Led Zeppelin IV (Zoso) – Led Zeppelin
The first song I learned the lyrics to all the way through was “Stairway to Heaven”. I was 4.

2 Master of Puppets – Metallica
My Heavy Metal initiation (1985). This album was the catalyst for finding other great artists.

3 War – U2
This is when I understood that music could move the spirit.

4 The Queen is Dead – The Smiths
There are no words. This is the best Smiths album hands down.

5 Magical Mystery Tour – The Beatles
6 Let it Be – The Beatles
7 Abby Road – The Beatles
Out of all the Beatles albums, these three still remain my favorites for the same reason. The songwriting was phenomenal.

8 Ulali – Mahk Jchi
Who says good music has to be in English?

9 Wheels of Fire / Disraeli Gears – Cream
Unable to separate these two as I got them at the same time and played them both to the point of pure static.

10 Ball – Iron Butterfly
Although I am a fan of the In-A-Gada-Da-Vida album, Ball provided way more in the way of psychedelic creativity.

Thriller by Michael Jackson. This was my first vinyl that mom got for me (from Best Buy), and I started blasting music since.

The Best of Jimi Hendrix It's Jimi. He's got a chord named after him. 'nuff said.

Razorblade Romance by HIM. This began my love for Finnish bands.

Past Masters by the Beatles. I used to always borrow this from the library. Wish I nabbed it from them when the library closed.

Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. I know I'll be crucified for this, but because of this album, I realized I really didn't like Pink Floyd at all.

Hot Rocks by the Rolling Stones. Just love them. Can't help it.

Bat out of Hell II by Meat Loaf. Yes, I can listen to ONE song for 10-20 minutes and stay interested. Plus the vid for "anything for love" just rocks.

Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits vol. 3 I just love this album. "Ring them Bells" and "Knocking on Heaven's Door" just rocks my world.

Elvis 30 No 1 Hits by Elvis Presley. Hell it's Elvis. Reason I got into guitar.

She's so Unusual by Cyndi Lauper. She taught me women can rock and that being bizarre was okay.
