but today my fingers are tender as hell, i want to play more and more today but the tenderness is discoraging, so...................

how do you do it?

you can try finger ease spray as a proactive measure. In regards to after the fact, sorry I have no idea. This may sound a bit odd, but I rake my finger tips along the brick facade on my house as I enter and leave. Why you may ask? To further roughen my finger tips on my fretting hand. Like I said,ODD! But, I never have problems with tender finger tips.

I've been playing bass a bit more lately, and that's toughening my fingers like crazy. Mostly, I don't let it bug me and keep playing. George Harrison used play until his fingers bled.

Your fingers are tender because you played more than they were ready for.
Just wait til they don't hurt. play again. they will toughen up. its sorta like when you take a break from working out. you need to scale back a bit, until your body readjusts to the activity.

I spent an entire gig six feet in front of Pete Townshend in the late '70s. His right hand was covered in blood by the end of the show - but that was from a slightly different cause...

hahaha exactly nothing to do with his guitar playing.....which i personally find completly overated.....did he not famously refuse to go on stage after hendrix because his ego would have been destroyed?

Now now: none of that here!

His hand was bleeding because of repeated high impact collisions with his strings and bridge. If you've never seen DVDs of The Kids Are Alright or the new Live at Kilburn don't wait. Everything you see of that gentleman's playing technique is real, not faked. I've seen it up close!

Somewhat disappointing. I must confess. Outside of a few token windmill shots and the infamous guitar smashing, I have seen very little live Who footage. :?

Stevie Ray Vaughan used to rip his callouses right out playing. Townsend used to thrash his hand every night. he windmilled and impaled his hand on his wammy bar once too. Lucky to not have permanent damage.

Although I am not a big 'Who' fan I want to say:

On the subject of the websites, he was exonerated. he was doing research for a book, due to abuse he suffered as a child. he had legal permission, had informed authorities of what he was doing and why. it was a lack of communication between enforcement agencies that lead to his legal woes.

Though his arrest made huge headlines, his redemption wasn't big enough news for anything but the back pages and filler. it is good to know he's one of the good ones, and in no way like Gary Glitter. Who is as abysmal a person as he was a musician.

fair play you are right what i said was a bit out of order thinking on it, but it was said out of humour was not meant to offend him or his fans, and though i personaly do not rate him as a guitarist, he did do some great things and moved alot of people.

Good Lord: we'll have to agree to respectfully differ on that one! Some of the most exciting nights of my life spent at those shows. Personal opinion, obviously.

***

I'm not sure the other Townshend issue is appropriate for this site.

But to address it circumspectly, a huge police investigation failed to find a thing to hold against him - at a time when several other celebrities' noxious activities where being uncovered and prosecuted, and the police were leaving no stone unturned. And perhaps more tellingly: the most rabid tabloid press on the planet went after Townshend like a pack of ravening wolverines and likewise could dig up nothing to put in print. And their standards of proof are not high.

I strongly doubt there was anything behind it - and for legal reasons as well as out of decency we should have the sense to leave it there.

Them's my thoughts, anyhow...

Cheers - C
