Hey Stokesfan-

So Sorry to hear of your loss. The unconditional love of a dog is something special.

Here is my "Golden Doodle" Angel. I will give he a good petting tonight.

I mentioned in another thread, I was hoping to adopt another Springer Spaniel. The one I was after, seems to have been pressganged into the police force. So on the advice of our very own NikiImage I contacted the rescue service for Springers, I'm meeting with them this Sunday. They seem like nice people, and really care about the dogs. So hopefully in a few weeks, I'll have a new pal :D

Condolances. Most dogs are better people than many people.

Name a guitar after him and keep him in your heart for ever.

'Have a big, black bass named after our big, black Scottish Terrier who passed almost 6 years ago.

So it is still possible to hold and play with "Angus."

And consider another Bulldog. A Scottie puppy helped us get beyond Angus. And Isobel is a furry treasure in her own right.

I'm truly sorry to hear about your dog. People who are not animal lovers cannot possibly understand. We had to put down one of our dogs in December of 2005, and I still tear up when I think about her.

Ian Anderson (of Jethro Tull fame) has a great song on the subject of losing a pet on his Rupi's Dance solo album:

"Old Black Cat"

My old black cat, he passed away this morning
He never knew what a hard day was.
Woke up late and danced on tin roofs.
If questioned "Why?" answered, "Just because."

He never spoke much, preferring silence:
Eight lost lives was all he had.
Occasionally sneaked some Sunday dinner.
He wasn't good and he wasn't bad.

My old black cat wasn't much of a looker.
You could pass him by - just a quiet shadow.
Got pushed around by all the other little guys.
Didn't seem to mind much - just the way life goes.

Padded about in furry slippers.
Didn't make any special friends.
He played it cool with wide-eyed innocence,
Receiving gladly what the good Lord sends.

Forgot to give his Christmas present.
Black cat collar, nice and new.
Thought he'd make it through to New Year.
I guess this song will have to do.

My old black cat...
Old black cat...

It's tough go!. Serious mourning as nikininja notes. If it's your nature to share your life with a critter, by all means, take the plunge. A rescue, if possible. You both will benefit by the act.

Just recently found my dog dead in a ditch :( .
It still hasn't come to me that she is dead yet.
A cute dog she was too, a Whippet mix and wagged her tail so hard it gave my friend a bruise.
