At least in Musicians Friend's new ad it's true. Fender raised their prices. During a faltering economy I guess it makes sense to make good gear further out of the reach of average working musicians that depend on fair prices.

I've heard people say that a Gibson is a work of art, but a Fender is a true tool and instrument. It made sense almost, Gibson charging way too much for their 'standard' guitar while fender's standard was always under 1000. Because Gibson decided their 'art' was too good for a common musician.

Fact is, the standard american strats and teles are now around 1200- 1300. And now the deluxes are close to 2 grand.

This is upsetting to say the least. What do you guys think?

Yes, a couple threads, but from the business end, fender is a business and they have to put black e-ink in the e-books or the brand will go away.

No doubt, the price increase was a solid business decision.

As said in a thread which went away(?), back in '68, an American Startocaster came in one flavour and was about $300. And a new Ford Mustang Coupe was about $3000 and a really nice starter house in metro Chicago was $30,000.

Now, look at an American Standard and new Mustang and house.

We don't have to like it, but it's reality.

Would you rather they blew off this forum and reduced the website to a page or two and reduced the new prices three cents on each instrument and amp?

I prefer Fender just keep their prices the same, so in a few years from now, they could be majorly in debt, and then the government could just bail them out. Thats the governments job right? To keep businesses in business after the businessmen in charge just p!ss all the business money away...I am of course being sarcastic, as I totally agree with you...Fender is not the auto industry...they have the decency to take it upon themselves to do what needs to be done to stay in business, without needing to ask for the government for help out of a situation that they put themselves in, which is what the auto industry, among many others, have done...To the best of my memory, there is nothing in the Constitution that says the US Government is in the business of keeping businesses in business...

GEEZUS....in a time of record job losses, foreclosures, and a bad economy, there are more important things than the price increase of a non-essential, luxury items such as guitars...WHAT ABOUT ALL THE PRICE INCREASES ON NECESSARY, ESSENTIAL ITEMS AND SERVICES THAT PEOPLE NEED TO LIVE??? Like groceries, energy, clothing, shelter, and transportation? I hate the fact the necessary items that are used and needed on a day to day basis are increasing...As much as I love guitars, I can survive if I don't buy a guitar this year, but I cannot survive if I have no job to pay my bills or keep a roof over my head (and my guitars)...I'm upset that price increases on things other than guitars make it more difficult to live, so the price increase of a luxury item, like a guitar, is the least of my concerns...And before someone says,"I need a guitar to live.", thats just psychological, because as far as I know, no one has died from not being able to purchase or play a guitar, but people do die from not being able to purchase enough food to eat, adequately heat their homes in winter time, or being forced to live in the streets...

I am sick and tired of the,"OH no, I cannot afford a luxury item...How could they do such a thing? I can no longer live life peacefully now..."-Crap...there's more to life than just guitars, like life itself

Yeah, I'd much rather see the prices of necessary things go down. Around where I live, the cost of living in the most basic studio apartment is still like 35% higher than what a person on minimum wage could afford.

I started the thread because at first it got me mad to see prices go up. But in all honesty, unless you 'need' something musical new, which is unlikely, used is the way to go. And those market prices don't tend to change.

Besides, nothing will change my love for fender. Except if they stopped offering telecasters and stratocasters. But how likely is that to happen?

With the state of the economy worldwide, there'll be lots of discounting of Fenders... and lots of used bargains to be had.

RRP is meaningless, you can always do a deal. :D

Actually I was about to buy a Jaguar Bass, I went to musiciansfriends page and now it is $300 more expensive than the original price. Is sad but Fender is Fender  No Complaints....
