This started a couple of weeks ago. I had noticed that our car was not locked in the morning when I got up. Since my Wife is the last one to drive it at night I reminded her that she had been forgetting to lock the car. She assured me that she had been locking the car.
Yesterday we went to the grocery store together and while we were driving the car started locking and unlocking the doors! After we got home it kept locking and unlocking. And each time it would turn on the dome light. I had her remove the ground from the battery so that it would stop.
Today She took the car over to get this problem looked at. She carefully explained what has been happening and what she had done. The Mechanic looked at her and told her she had already done what they would do to solve 70% of all electrical problems on new cars. By removing the cable from the battery then putting it back on to start the car to take it to get fixed she had Re-Booted the car's computer!!!!! Problem solved.

What's next, defragging your car?

Crazy is it not? They can send a signal from a satelite and unlock you car door who would have thought that 20 years ago. A friend has a car alarm that calls his cell phone if the alarm goes off. It cost him 10.00 a month for the sim card.

Pefectly normal, before any attemp to remove the driver from the car, you should always quit whatever you are doing at the moment, close windows, turn off the power, remove the driver to exit the car. After a total power down you have to wait some time, then to restart you reenter the car, start up, open windows and from time to time you have to upload the function "gas". Maybe the AC function was set too high because it can freeze the driver and if the driver catches a virus you could end up with memory problems. Then you would have to install a new updated driver with a bigger capacity all at your expenses. :D :D

Seriously this is a problem I encountered a few times in my career. Electronics and programming can do weird things for sure. I'll spare you the exotic stories that happened to customers but it often ends up with disconnecting the battery. I hope that these car engineers won't have to work on my Fenders.

Morning Solid Body Love Songs. Well I guess that the car makers must introduce new technologies slowly so they don't scare their customers. And by doing so they give themselves the time to study the market for minor strategy adjustments.

Gone are the days of real cars. Just some seats and a engine on 4 wheels. Weve these things these days that drive emselves and cant be fixed by a mere mortal with a set of spanners and knowlede. You gotta have computers and machines gallore now.

Oh I so sympathise with this sort of problem. We've been having all sorts of electronic problems with a Toyota's alarm system ever since Windows Vista came out.

Not that Windows has anything to do with that car. But it is my habitual policy to blame Microsoft for most things troublesome in the world. When the heck are they going to do something about our dishwasher outlet that keeps blocking?

Cheers - C

I can remember back when you could actually get inside the engine compartment to work on it!

I do too and sometimes was able to even fix things instead of replacing things the way they do today. :?

Does the hood still open nowadays?

Many cars dont even have a battery that is accesible, on mine I have to take a wheel off to replace the battery. Plus 1 design by another winner car company.

Yeah, you have to find the hidden hood latch release inside the car.
