Greetings,

I know that FMIC has purchased Guild, and I just learned that the facility in Connecticut is up and running. Why isn't there more information about this good news? I was expecting Fender to be announcing this with fanfare and much advertising. The Guild website makes no mention of the startup of American/Northeast facility. I also wonder where we'll be able to try and buy these. Hopefully Fender will crank up the PR machine.

Patiently waiting...............!!!!

Hello Sbrenn01,

Made in Conn. that'll be grand.
I played a sunburst D-35 for
about 20 years a really good
guitar. Hopefull the quality will
be that of the New Jersey and
Rhode Island production eras.
Thanks for the information.

Cheerc

I'm stumped. I cannot figure out why FMIC isn't promoting the new facility. Nowhere on the Guild website does it have information about production, which models are being built in Conn. I really don't want a "Made in China" instrument, and there's no real way to know what is what. Dealers listed on the Guild site are not up to date; I know that some close to me are out of business. Musician's Friend is selling off their Guild stock at 'buyout' prices. Guitar Center sells a lot of Fender gear, but both parties have no information about pairing up. I really would rather buy from a reputable business. I guess I will either wait a little while longer or go to craigslist or (shudder) Ebay. :?

My dream acoustic is a vintage Guild M-20 (the Nick Drake guitar). Ohh, yeah.

Guild guitars are great. Originally started by a Polish dude, with the thought of making a guitar for players, that are built to last - and they are.

For one, Fender does not have a great reputation for good quality acoustics. Guild does. If I were part of Guild marketing, I would not be going out of my way to tell the world that Fender bought it. Many people (myself included) are rather skeptical of the quality and consistency of Fender/Guild guitars now that Fender has "gotten its hands on" an already good acoustic guitar company. I myself am much less likely to buy a new Guild if Fender ends up having any influence at all on the way they Guild does things.

Sorry Fender, but you already know your acoustics ain't all that great :)

Are you implying that guitar center isn't a "reputable business"?
I know how you feel - I always try to buy my strings or whatever I need from my local unfranchized guitar store. Might spend a little more but leave feeling that I helped out "the local dude". And I would NEVER take a guitar to GC for any kind of work.
