greetings fellow pluckers - can someone help a newbie? - i recently got a hot rod deville with 2 x 12 - i had previously played a blues junior and blues deluxe and loved the sound- i got the deville in a big sale of floor stock, and there was nothing else to choose from

my problem is that i can't get a good "blues" sound from the deville - you know that beautiful, creamy, just-breaking-up-sound? the "drive" channel sounds thin, and the "clean" is just that - too clean. I play a strat. What do other players do - use a pedal? change tubes? change speakers? change amps? change lifestyle? - thanx in advance for any responses - ps i'm in australia, so you will have to shout REAL LOUD! :)

 You've got to be kidding???

I have the DeVille 4x10 and it does exactly what your saying you can't do.

My tone is pretty close to what your looking for, clean, but alittle breakup.

Here is the settings that I use on my amp about 95% of the time. I'm on the clean channel, not the drive channels. These settings give me a good creamy, jazzy, bluesy sound, just think Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Chitlins Con Carne", but maybe alittle cleaner than his. You can try these on your amp and see if you come close, I think you'll be able to.

Since this might be pretty loud, you can use a soft pick attack to keep the volume low and your tone clean, then get aggresive when you need more volume and breakup. You can also use your guitars volume knob for more distortion isf you need it.

This is something that should get you in the ballpark.

Strat using neck and neck/middle with volume knob on about 7
volume - 10
treble - 5
bass - 5
middle - 9
reverb - 12 your taste may differ
presence - 10

thanx 4 that response- i worked on it last weekend and got a pretty good sound - i backed the tones onto about 5 (as you suggest) and gave the volume some stick (but NOT to 10 as suggested, that's just TOO loud for me) - also i got hold of a boss ME-550 multi effects unit, which really does the job - it gives me more control over the volume, and i can dial in just a smidgeon of natural overdrive to give me a nice sounding breakup at relatively low volumes.

this amp if fantastic - i just wish it wasn't so heavy!! ah well, gotta love those tubes....

Glad I was some help. My volume is pretty loud on 10, but I manage to control the loudness with my touch (or pick attack) and it's been getting better and better, so I'm able to keep the volume down with that technique.

I think it's probably the best possible way to get monster bite that you can scare the hell outta people with, hehehehe.
