Nope, no names. The closest I get to names is something like "she's a beauty". Yes, guitars are female.

No. I just like Japanese anime, and I've taken to using some of the names / words that I've learned over the years. I introduced my grandaughters to anime - they too use Japanese words with their friends!

I have a Japanese friend is a musician. He used to stay with me sometimes when I lived in NYC. I first met him in San Francisco many years ago.

I have seen Kitaro on many of his US tours - he writes some very powerful music.

I will have to visit Japan one of these days.

Personal names should only be given to those who can answer to them.

I call my Guild acoustic my "Monkey", my Fender Showmaster "Excalibur", and my SRV sig Strat my "Axe" or "2nd wife". Heh, my first (wedded) wife is a battle-axe.

I have three guitars and they all have names

MIM Strat: Rosa (spanish name for a spanish lady)

U.S. Strat: Caroline (after the Neil Diamond song)

Takamine Acoustic: Mable

There is nothing wrong with naming your guitars.

I have several Strats & all have names based on their color. Daphne (She's Daphne Blue).Paisley (again, the color) Blondie (Honey Blonde). Pearly (pearloid pickguard). Goldie (gold hardware) Oly (Olympic White). You get the idea. My wife is very supportive. She got me started on the "Name Game"...

Have you ever worked with one of those people that don't have kids, but they have a pet that they dress up and treat like a kid? You know, the ones that show you all the pictures of their cat dressed up for the holidays, or the football game so they don't feel left out when everyone else is talking about their children?

Ooops, sorry for straying from the topic. I agree with Gravity Jim, naming a guitar is ...peculiar?

The only players I'll give a pass to on this one are BB King, because he's done it for years and everyone knows who Lucille is, and E.C. for naming his guitars 'Blackie' and 'Brownie' because, well, they're black and brown.

i name my guitars but in refering to inanimant objects i use THE . like my lp is the lester or my eric johnson strat is the ej .my moblehome is the winnie .to use a name only, would imply a very strong emotional attachment like some have with their pets or kids or cars or whatever.

Yes, I name my guitars.
Usually the name comes from the stickers that are on them, or a variation of the model name. Here are my 6 kids:
Squier Standard Fat Tele- Antique Burst- DIRTY WOMEN
Squier Standard Fat Tele- Vintage Blonde- VOODOO ACTION
Squier Standard Fat Tele- Metallic Black- BLACK CAT
Squier Jagmaster- Black- JAGER-MASTER
Schecter Damien 6- DAMIEN 666
Hohner L75- CROOK, or CROOKSIE MONSTER
