The first band that comes to mind is Van Halen, then Aerosmith, odd thing I suppose is that I'm not a big fan of either. :?

Wayyyyyyyyy too many great American bands to mention, but of those I've seen live. Aerosmith are right up there, Van Halen too. Skynard was and still are one of my all time favorite bands, I could list so many more. But I have my Strat all hooked up, and she's screeeemin at me to jam out for a while.

stone temple pilots , alice in chains, nirvana , cheap trick, guns and cough cough roses,, bill haley and the comets started the worldwide rock movement without them we would all be playing who knows what , quiet riot, slayer, megadeth , danzigmisfitssamhain, the kingsmen, white trash, chicago, blood sweat and tears , james gang, blue oyster cult, paul butterfield blues band, johnny winter and, outlaws, beach boys can't deny them, ventures were for guitar what the x-ray was for medicine, motley crue, xtc, black flag, hootie and the blowfish put that in because if you've read this far you needed a smile, baby hughie and the babysitters, tip of the iceberg getting a soft drink pick one best or come up with some one better there's alot more

For me, it's a real toss up between CCR and the Allman Bros. I think I would have to give the nod to the Allman's though, on sheer musical muscularity.

Too young to have seen the earliest incarnations, but I have seen a couple variants live, and they are still BY FAR the best sounding band I have seen live. They suffered the loss of some fine fine players, but they recovered, and recruited new people equal to the task into the family.

CCR just oozes R&R though. I think Fogerty is my favorite R&R singer. There are people with much better voices, and much better control and range, but to me he just typifies what a rock voice should be.

Also The Band (except Levon Helm,) were Canadian, and get the nod for best Canadian Band from me, with The Guess Who as a second choice.

^^ I guess arguably, my first inspiration to pick up a guitar, if only to hit my brother over the head :P :P
