what about the house band for all of those great hits by : smokey robinson and the miracles, the temptations, the four tops, marvin gaye, otis redding, wilson pickett, sam and dave, the supremes and the godfather of soul james browns band and help me out here older guys....

booker t & the mgs were the house band at staxs for quite a while. so they would have been the backing band for otis redding and sam and dave...they may have backed wilson pickett at some point but i am not sure.

also...i was fortunate enough to see james brown twice and he and his band put on an incredible show.

Aerosmith. I love Booker T. & the MG's, but they were the house band too long. I know Aretha, Sam & Dave, Wicked Wilson Pickett & others were glad though. Tom Petty & the HB's are one of my favorites, but Tom had an extended time as a "solo" act. Those Mike Campbell's solos were missed.

Aerosmith rocked out of the gates, stumbled on drugs, rebounded and rocked on. I like Boston, but they're not the best band in Boston. Too much time feuding with record co.) between records.

Aerosmith. Van Halen changed my world in 1978. Eddie is just totally awesome! Too many problems with keeping a singer. Diamond Dave is the man, but the ego got out of control.

Aerosmith. If you pick another, I understand. I think I supported my case well.

LL, those rockers are great , i was in the U. K. in '73 when LZ's 'houses of the holy' and GFR's 'we're an american band'was released and the U.K. radio stations dj's were always dancing around the subject which one is the better rock band , now when i think back on that it's like comparing muhamed-the stinging butterfly-ali to mike- your gonna need a doctor-tyson, both in the business of knocking people out but different styles to accomplish that. LZ and GFR knocked the people out with their tunes but just a little differently. (not really on the subject, sorry)carry on.

This made me think of the Monkees documentary I watched this weekend on Smithsonian on demand. Very interesting.

although frank zappa was just one person he alwais had in impeccable band. but if we are talking about a living band bruce springsteen and the e street band gets a vote the band is very tight. :P
