Still think that its cool to have a guitar played by someone like John and then you get to keep it, like Ken says it adds character to the guitar to have someone play it that famous and then give it to you :)

John Cruz... The conversation at the guitar shop with a little something like this:

Guitar tech: Wow this is beautiful. The action is incredible. The neck feels great.
Me: Thanks man, I wish I could take credit for that.

Gutiar tech: And this is Master built? (Looks at the back of the headstock) This is CRUZ BUILT!?!? HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT FOR IT!?
Me: Sorry man, it wont ever be for sale.

vintage style bridge...

"Relic'd" Neck... I think it was for more of a comfort thing... It so incredibly smooth.

John Mayer incase guitar bag. ballin' I actually bought one of these of ebay because I like them so much and then the Continuum strat showed up in one. Can't get any better. By the way, this is such a great shot of my wood floors from 1940, hopefully the guitar will age a little better.
Image

The piece of white tape. 317, its my new favorite number. That or if you look at it upside down, it could be "LIE".

John's Ernie Ball strap. He's tall. When I put it on, It hangs to my ankles. Well maybe not to my ankles.
Image

Ahhhh, the toboggan/beanie, whatever you call this piece of headgear, its puzzled me since the arrival. Whose is it? John Mayers? John Cruz's? John Mayer's guitar tech Rene Martinez? Brad Traweek's? haha i have no idea but Fender/John Mayer not only gave me master built Stratocaster, an incase guitar bag,the strap to go with the guitar, but a hat too! This couldn't get any better.

Fender and John Mayer gave me an incredible instrument, and I can't thank them enough. John Cruz, you've made an incredible guitar. I'm spoiled forever and that is in no way a complaint. This amazing and I'm so grateful for it. Its cool to know I have a piece of Fender and John Mayer's history and a John Cruz work of art sitting next to me.

Just to top of an awesome story: As I've said in other posts. I have seen John twice this year. The second time, here in Raleigh, when he pulled out this guitar, I told my bandmate beside me that I signed up to win it in a contest but would "Never win it". The following was a picture I took from the 8th row of his show of him playing the Continuum Strat.

Image
I think I'm going to blow this picture up and put it on my wall.

hey John, good show

Also keep checking back in. My band has been selected to open a part of a tour next week. We'll be going to Tennessee, Okalhoma, Arkansas, and Ohio. The Continuum Strat is already back touring! I'll take some photos of it along the way.

Beautiful guitar mate, congrats.

Only have one problem with it - when anyone mentions 'continuum' to me I think of Jaco Pastorius, not Mayer haha! (bassist syndrome :p)

So whats so good about this cruz guy, out of interest? :)

I have never been so envious yet so happy for someone else at the same time in my life. That is awesome. Congrats. I'm going to go buy a guitar to soothe my bitterness over the fact that I didn't win.

The beanie is weird. haha John probably thought it would be funny to throw it in there. Then again, it could be some random roadie's.

Can you give measurements on how high the pickups are set, action ,
neck relief, what kind of pickups? it is rare that a fan gets to win an actual players guitar.

My guess is the hat belongs to John.

Check this out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSM3FL7zUdw

The guitar looks great.

Is your band stopping in Cleveland?

Enjoy that fine instrument.

John will probably post and say he's been looking all over for this hat. :)

Fantastic pictures! Mayer can really play especially when he cuts loose live. That's a beautiful guitar. Awesome to see how they set it up for artists with touches like the relic'd neck. Is it a thin nitrocellulose? Is he using the scooped Mayer pickups like on his artist signature model?

Congratulations, and thanks for sharing the description and photos. What's great is you not only play but gig with it.

I noticed the John Mayer wiki made mention of the Continuum guitar. So I added an entry explaining the outcome of the "Win this Guitar" contest. I hope you don't mind. I also included a link to this thread. Let me know, if you want me to remove the mention.

thats cool that someone mentioned it on wiki... i just read it and thought it was pretty cool. As far as measurements and specifications about the guitar, i didn't get any literature on that. I was thinking about seeing if I could contact John Cruz and maybe get some information about it that way.

I just got off my first tour with the Continuum Strat. It was a real blessing getting to take that thing on the road. I had a hard time not worrying about it though when it wasn't locked up in our trailer or up on stage. Luckily, I made it back to North Carolina without anything unfortunate happening. My band Inflowential ( http://www.inflowential.com or http://www.myspace.com/inflowential ) got to hit the road for 12 or so shows opening for a band called Rehab. We played four shows here in Carolina and then went to Memphis, Tulsa, Little Rock, Fayetteville, Knoxville, Nashville, Louisville, and Cincinnati. We visited some pretty cool venues that have had some big names play there. In Knoxville, Robert Randolph and Corey Smith played a Fraternity function literally across the street at a smaller outdoor venue. I've always wanted to see Robert Randolph play so watching that from the balcony of the venue we were playing was pretty special. Corey Smith and his band came over to our venue after their show, which started earlier in the day, to play a song with Rehab, returning the favor from when Danny Boone of Rehab sat in on "Sitting at the Bar" across the street for the frat crowd. Corey Smith and his band were all really nice. I was hoping Robert Randolph would have come over too! hahaha

As for the guitar! Just about every sound man we had went nuts over the guitar. It played beautifully. It sounded beautifully through my hotrod deluxe and in the house when the sound man was on top of his game on any of those given nights. Again, I got a couple offers to buy the guitar. I politely said NO THANK YOU. Mike Hartnett, the lead guitar player for Rehab loved it when he played it through his Dr. Z head and Marshall Cab set up. Mike certainly has some skill on the insturment so it was awesome watching him play it.

My camera decided to go crazy and only worked a fraction of the time on tour so I didn't get any photos of me playing the guitar. I know we have a video of it and I'm going to try to get some still frames off of that. I've got a few shots of the venues/towns we went to if anyone is interested.
