If there was just 1 song to define Alt. Rock in the 80s and 90s which song do you thing it would be?

I personally think its the classic The Replacement song "Left of the Dial."

I'd say "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure or maybe something by REM.

XTC was deffinetly on the front edge of "alternative" music. I would say Nirvana was more grunge, with grunge being a sub catagory of alternative. Just my opinion tho.

actually both terms...alternative and grunge are inventions of the lame $@!, non-musician media and record industry...trying to sell a product.....

it's all just music.

well, "complicated game" is by no means typical xtc. most people who remember the band think of "nigel" and other more happy/poppy stuff.
complicated game is IMHO one of the sickest, grungiest, and absolutely insane (meant literally) songs ever done. it has, on occasion, brought me to tears.

anyone who hasn't personally experienced that song should put it on their "things to do" list... now.

am i getting carried away?... sorry... i told you - it does something to me... let it do something to you :)
