Me too! Prior to his joining them, he had a monster album, The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get and the hit from it, "The Rocky Mountain Way". His subsequents albums did well enough to sustain a successful solo career. Not sure what the attraction to The Eagles was.

They're OK. I'm not a big fan of 70s southern Cali country rock/pop.

They're good players and certainly have the hits.

I was always confused as to why Walsh joined this band.

EXACTLY! I wish Walsh stayed with the James Gang

As an old fart, listening to the Eagles back in the day was a gimme. When Joe Walsh came aboard, replacing Bernie Leadon prior to Hotel California, he helped transform them from this good country rock band to a Super Group. They owe Joe Walsh a lot, he brought them a new sound and well the results speak for themselves. I saw them on the last two tours and I will say, they do a great job re-creating the exact pristine sounds from their albums. tht's not easy to do live. It does get a little boring at times. Then, Joe Walsh plays one of his songs from the Eagles catalog or one of his own. He jump starts the crowd and they wake up and go wild. Joe Walsh is that good. If he didn't, you would have a snooze fest, because most of the Eagles music is sleepy. Joe also blends in well with Steuart Smith who is an excellent musician and adds a lot to the Eagles sound. Love em, hate em, they are and will always be The Eagles warts, egos and all.

interesting subject! i'm 63 been doing it "music" since i was 14. still pickin n grinnin. grew up on eagles stuff, still like it. it's all just an opinion with us music people. and there like belly buttons. you gotta sift through it all and not take the attuides of people you will never become more involved with other than playinfg there music, to serious. after all when your on stage doing that song that works, no matter what kind of person created it, it's the music, and that alone drives us too be the best we can be with it! give credit where it's earned, the musical talent they and we are born with. just be gratful you were able to be a part of it all! by reproducing it as you wish, and how you want. and don't for get the harmonies and vocal solos, some of the most demanding talent in these songs. the hardest thing to bring together at times is charicter between in people on stage. putting aside our egoes, and going forward at a profesional level to create, no body said it's easy, those of you that have done it, know what i'm saying, the best is when it is not all businessn just my opinion, nothing more.

I seem to remember that the band, "Stillwater" "documented" in the Cameron Crowe's movie "Almost Famous" was based on The Eagles. I think the line from the lead singer for the fictional "Stillwater" was a quote from something the Frey told Crowe, "Whatever you write, just make us look cool, man!". These guys have been fantastic at image management from the start. It was ego-driven, and verifiable - they can back up their egos. (reminds me of CSN&Y)
