I can't say that I've ever heard of them.

When I was a young'n I'm afraid they stood for everything we said we loathed. I wonder if I missed anything.

Good grief - this page says they still exist!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camel_(band)

(Why doesn't that link work? Who cares?)

Given that the highest they got in the US Billboard charts was 134 in 1978 it is not surprising nobody's heard of them that side of the pond...

Cheers - C

As a huge Yes fan, I know of them. But I never bought any of their albums.

Hi Stratfan7 - I saw Camel playing back in the mid seventies in Bristol, UK. Anybody who was into progressive rock then (in the UK anyway) will have heard of them, otherwise probably not. I've got a cd of theirs called "Music Inspired by the Snow Goose" which was a poem. Its still good listening. Another good band from that era was Caravan -I think they are still going too. Anybody in the US heard of Caravan?

Andy.

Hi c-hawk: basically, you don't. Mr stratfan7 launched a row of threads all at the same time the other day addressed to people from other countries, all on the same theme. I think this was the only one that got a response.

Probably the idea was to show that he's heard of some bands that are not well known in the USA...?

Cheers - C

I picked up a used Camel LP a couple years ago to give them a listen.

I had heard of them (for ages), but I never actually heard them.

Gary Glitter was never that big on this side (the west) of the pond either.

Hawkwind was mildly successful.

Wasn't he from Canada too? At least, that's what we're claiming, these days...
