I've found all kinds of new blues players out there. I've never had trouble finding new ones. You just have to listen and look. Start going to blues festivals in your area, and I'm sure that you'll find a few.

These days it seems people don't really differentiate between Blues and Blues Rock which seems to be more Rock than Blues recently. For better or worse, this is the version of Blues that seems to appeal most to younger people today from what I have observed.

For example, Blues Wax is a weekly internet newsletter that covers the Blues. It conducts an annual readers poll for both Artist and Record of the Year. Since 2001, the eight Artist winners have all been guitarists who can rip it up: Albert Cummings, Joe Bonamassa (3), Tommy Castro (2), Anthony Gomes, and Eric Clapton. To my ears, you have three Rockers, one Soul/R&B guy, and Clapton who has a foot in both Rock and Blues camps. No Muddy Waters types here. Not even Albert King (maybe Eric).

In many instances, what passes for Blues today would have been found under "Rock" in record store bins back in the days of vinyl. I'm not an officer of the Blues Police, but it makes me wonder if we're all talking about the same music.

While I take a exception with a couple of his statements (and only a couple), much of what SlapChop said I believe to be true as much as I don't like to hear it.

Already Jazz has been turned into a museum piece. It hasn't grown since Miles Davis died and even he left his trumpet behind in favor of electronic music in the last years of his career. Some people say if Blues needs societies, festivals, and "Keepin' the Blues Alive" events to provide life support, then maybe it deserves to die. To stay alive it needs to grow and change even if that means making a U-turn towards Rock.

Just the 2 cents of a Strat-playing, middle-aged white guy who belongs to two Blues societies and the Blues Foundation. Didn't mean to ramble. Sorry.

So, if I get what Slap Chops saying, Mainstream music is Cutting Edge, Progressive, and Unique. Does this describe Britney Spears and Kanye West. Was Beyonce's "All the Single Ladies" Groundbreaking?

I'd have to write a book to get someone who doesn't love the blues to understand them, so let me just say..........If Blues is Just Music then Harley Davidson's are Just Motor Cycles. And since there are more efficient and more popular motorcycles, their riders should just get over thier hogs and start ridin' BMW's. Oh, and while your at it loose the Leather and the Half-helmet and get a riding suit with the full face Helmet. And, by the way, no offence.

Me and that Biker have the same answer for you. But, hey, that's just my opinion.

I remember the one that National Lampoon Radio Hour did - what was the title - "Psychology Ptoday Blues?"

Every day I get depressed,
I'm reacting unfavorably,
To environmental stress...
