As some of the most popular blues players are aging in years, who is going to bring the blues and keep it alive and well?
I realize there are a LOT of blues players out there. My question is who do you think is going to be the next Eric or BB or ? Who will be the next Icon of the blues? (in your valued opinion) :?:

Its hard to tell I think. Of cause there some very talented young Bluesmusicians, but I think that the blues largly gets formed by life experience and thus only time will tell who lived the blues to express it.

I'm still waiting for that second coming of Robert Johnson

I really hope there will be another John Lee Hooker

well put , the days that brought us those past legends are gone thankfully , there are new challenges in these days , perhaps the genre will adjust itself to reflect now.

Blues, for the had its day, and is out of the limelight for the masses at leat, but only for the time being. Sure there are millions of faithfull blues fans around the world like you and me, but the masses have other ideas

Currently singer songwriter(folky stuff i guess), emo rock adn dance is popular but that will never last.

until blues makes its comeback, which it will, just needs a veichle, some awesome artist or band to do so, it will be kept alive by us, playing at home, or bands playing in the little dank blues and jazz clubs.

the best live blues i hear nowdays is by tribute bands to rory gallagher and jimi hendrix. they are awesome. Brian Meakin (Ireland) is a prime example, he is amazing, as is the band "Sinnerboy" who are a tribute to Rory Gallagher. but they will never be in the charts.

as said we just need a revival, someone trendy, and genuine to come along and cite their influences as the blues greats.

remember also though, most popular music stems from blues so its still there, albeit a bit hidden. it will never leave, but will most definately make a revival at some stage in the future.

Comeback??!? What, from total obscurity to moderate obscurity? The Blues has never had mainstream success, and it never will. Here's why:

1. Lack of innovation. It's just too formalized to allow for new stuff to happen. 12-bar, 16-bar, shuffle, snare train, blah blah blah. As soon as you innovate in any way, everybody says it's not The Blues anymore.

2. Sausage fest. Girls hate it. Which is, as puffed-chest males like to say, "nuff said."

3. Old-timey. Young people hate it. Can't relate. Okay, so you woke up dis moanin;.... big deal.

4. Too much guitar soloing. If Stevie Ray Vaughn is "The Blues" (and this seems to be the music that so many MAWG's cry this lament over), then I'm Muddy Waters. All that gun-slinging appeals to no-one but guitar players. Really popular music has no guitar solos; even George Harrison couldn't get more than four bars off before the vocals came back.

There you go. With rare exceptions (12-year old "prodigies," the occasional girl who follows baseball), nobody likes the blues but middle-aged white guys who own Stratocasters. People want to dance, to sing along, to feel a chill, to fall in love. They don't want to hear some dude wank all over the same boring changes and make passionate faces while he does it. The blues is like reggae: fun once every couple years or so, but, man, isn't that the same band they had up there last week? No? Just playing the same songs, is that it? Let's go someplace else.

And I'm not talking smack just to be harsh or raise Cain in the forum, I'm expressing my actual opinion. I love the blues, but I don't ever want to hear "Sweet Home Chicago" again as long as I live.

The general masses prefer the mindless pulp of thumpy dancey type fluff.

Blues like jazz may be a bit on the avaunt guard side and takes a bit too much thought for the mainstream .

However as people get older they seem to start to actually listen to the music and move up in their musical tastes as they mature.
if they have any hearing left after sitting in pinto's with 1000watt subs whamming the pavement.

Your opinion is valid for you, up until you said.

That is called racial profiling and is completely unacceptable.

Just wondering what kind of music you actually like?
Since in your past posts you have put down many different genres like Christian, Country, and Blues as well as several artists.

15, and loving the blues.
I must confess I'm white though. But wern't people like BB King and Hendrix African Americans?

I do think you're giving really good arguments though, and I always think a little exaggaration in the middle of a speech can't hurt.
Am sure you didn't mean to discriminate or hurt anyone, right Slapchop?

It is actually gendre profiling as well. Once I had unbunched my knickers though, I realized the comments were very well thought out.
