Is anyone else getting really pissed off with seeing Pete Wentz everytime they go on the homepage?

life is to short to get upset about a picture of a bass player who lent his name to help promote fender product, besides it is in conjunction with a give away and who doesnt like free stuff from fender.so rock on Pete Wentz if youve found a way to make a ton of money playing in a very tough industry.

We've covered this before but even if you don't care for Fall Out Boy it's still a solid gear prize package in its own right -- I frequently use the TB 600C combo in my own band!

I don't see why people are annoyed with Pete Wentz. I mean, yes, he married Ashlee Simpson, which either means she is cooler than I thought she was, or he is lamer than I thought he was...but really why do people find him annoying? So he plays this form of commercialized, bastardized, indie-pop-punk-music...Who cares? 5 years from now people will probably barely remember who he or his band is, much like Presidents of the USA, Everclear, or Bush...big time player in whatever scene or genre had mainstream marketability at the time, but once the next trend comes around, 13-14 of their 15 minutes of fame will have passed by then...

It's called sales ... if they put 75% of the artists I know on the page, everyone would be scratching their heads saying "who's he/she???" I'm only vaguely aware of who Pete Wentz is or what he might sound like, but so what. They have to feature people who many prospective buyers will recognize and perhaps be inspired by.

No doubt too a lot of people inspired to buy because they know who Pete Wentz is and like the sound are not destined for immortality either. But again, so what? If only one person who buys a bass because of the page goes on to great things, then some good has become of it.

There's always going to be "pop music" in any era and it will come and go. But if that adds something to peoples' everyday lives, then great. We all know that the most popular (concert attendance, fan mail or whatever you want to guage that by) won't necessarily last.

I think Ana Popovic would be a good top page photo. Pete Wentz seems like a nice enough chap but his face is getting a bit stale.................its not that I dislike Pete, it just that I would prefer someone that might be a bit more appealing to the eye.

OK, executive decision - Fender needs to give Pete the "foot" and tell Ana that she is now the giveaway representative. I'll have my peeps call the Fender peeps and get it all set up.................

That particular giveaway is going to run through May 15th -- much longer than typical giveaways that we run simply because there are cards inserted into may copies of the new Fall Out Boy CD that direct folks to sign up -- i.e., we needed to give the CD a chance to sell through and get to consumers.

That said, it's ironic that this came up as we're actually working on an adjustment to the home page that's going to simplify things and eliminate some of the visual noise. Stay tuned for that.
