Hello First Measure,

Thanks for the link to a great video.
Ms. Crow is looking quite well.

Cheers.

Well, I like the fact that they play it as a song and not a flippin' guitar exercise (you an't imagine my joy when I opened this thread and found it wasn't about someone else "nailing" the pointless SRV version).

But that arrangement is a mess. "Too many notes."

Personally, I didn't like it, might have been better had they lost the sax, it turned it into a confused mess.

I don't get what people think is so great about this version of Little Wing?
Me and my brother both agree it is one of the worst versions we have ever heard! and i absolutely hate the the chords he opens the song with and repeats thru the song......

but this is just my opinion if you like it it's fine with me.....

I don't especially like it either, but that chordal riff is from the Derek and The Dominoes version.

from what i've heard jimi was a modest guitar player from an average family who taught himself to play on a fender strat strung upside down because he was lefty a friend of mine saw him with 'joey dee and the starlighters' around '65 little wing is one of my fav's a beautiful happy song skip ahead to that video and a bunch of pompous priviledged puffed up elitists just sadly destroyed the song and its vibe trying to do what prove what ? 250 dollars for a ticket to that second rate excuse for a 'rock concert' believe me you would be much much better off spending that money on your own strat and learning the song off of jimi's record for yourself.

Hendrix and Clapton were freinds, Clapton did this tune in Derek and the Dominoes as a tribute to his dead friend, he still does it as a tribute to his dead friend. I seen EC with Dereck Truck, Doyle Bramhal, and Robert Cray at the Staples Center. It was well worth $75 per ticket for not the best seats. Just Motheress Children with Derek on slide and Eric singing was worth it.

And it would do you all good to open your pallet to differences. I never once considered Hendrix's, SRV, or the Dominoes Little Wing when I listened to this one, I expected Loose harmony (that's part of EC's take on this tune), Avant-Garde Jazz Sax (Sanborns trademark), and I didn't know what to expect from Sheryl, except competent vocals, and she more than delivered.

A note about SRV's version, it was recorded without the bands knowledge. Stevie was setting his Amps and Pedals and what not, while Chris Layton was still tuning his drums. The engineer rolled tape without saying a word. That candidness makes it my favorite recording.

You didn't bother me, you're entitled to your opinion and critique, I'm jsut stickin' up for Clapton and Crow. They didn't need to do that song at all, there's planty of their material they could have done, I don't believe it was out of pomposity, but rather respect.

I've always stood up for the "Cover Song", with out the cover so much music would be lost in favor of "Next". I mean, What's the purpose of buying that Pawn Shop bullet Strat and learning Little Wing if no one wants to hear it played differently thatn the way they're used to? I supose someone could buy that Strat and write some of their own stuff, so it can get old and go by the wayside, and never be covered.

To me, music must be written and played, revived and refreshed, Respected and Lampooned. A balance of New and Old, Neo and Classic, Traditional and Ground Breaking. It's OK to like "Love, Reign o'er Me" by Heart and the Who.

But please don't take anything I say as more than friendly banter, I'm just full as of "it" as anyone else (if not more-so).
