I've played piano since before I can remember because my parents had me in lessons and I think that's what really planted my foundations in music.

I also played trumpet in school band for a couple of years too but didn't really like it so I gave that up.

Started playing guitar last year and haven't looked back - it's definitely my favorite.

What about you guys? What got you into music in the first place?

Bass
Guitar (rhythm mostly)
Drums (in the most minimalist sense)

and if I could ever find it, thanks to 4th grade music class I can play the recorder like the devil himself. \m/

I play the computer! Okay, well I make music on my computer. I've been doing that since 1998. Look, see:

http://erikhiga.vox.com

I play bass and drums too. I can do some turntable stuff. Some people call that an instrument. Mostly I play the guitar though. All the time. Every day.

I started out in grade school playing snare drum. Once I got old enough to get a job I quickly ran out and switched to guitar and haven't looked back.

I have been playing bass for 11 years now and I was the master of the recorder in elementary school! I have decided I need more basses than I currently have; my 1998 Squier Jazz (1st bass!), 1998 Mexi Jazz fretless, and my new 2007 Geddy Lee Jazz... Maybe a Jaguar should be next...
take care,

You should post some pics of your 2007 Geddy Lee Jazz Bass in the bass forums or something, would be really cool to see it. Do I sense another Rush fan on the Fender Forums now?

*Raises hand* You got a Rush fan right here too! Geddy Lee is one of my bass playing idols.

And yeah I would love to see pics of the Geddy.

I started on the drums (played percussion in grammar school band). Then went on to drum set in junior high. But by sophmore year in high school, was on the guitar.

I started playing trumpet in high school and have been playing it for about 11 years now. I fiddled with piano a little bit in high school, but never took lessons. I can read piano music, but that's about it. I picked up guitar when I got to college, but never really took off with it until last year. Now I can't put it down and I actually substituted my trumpet lessons for guitar lessons. I still play the trumpet when I'm at college though. They give me a scholarship to do so, so I've been keeping it up. It's also nice to keep ties to the music department up at college.
