I think David Gilmour is one of the all time great guitar players. He proves that you don't have to be lightning fast to be a great artist. He can say so much with just a few notes.

More importantly, he participated in the extraordinary exploration of sound as part of a most talented and gifted group of artists.

all this talk about gilmour... anyone here like to pay some respect to syd barrett? it's like talking about king crimson and not mentioning robert fripp, or the monkees without paying due respect to michael nezmiith :)

My previous comment takes that into consideration, yet not by name. Though Barrett plays a seminal role in the conception, he sadly threw his life away, a victim of LSD, yet was never lost to the hearts and minds of the rest of the band, certainly not to Gilmour, even after he and Waters parted ways. "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" and "Wish You Were Here" are fixed in Gilmour's repertiore, as constant tribute to his friend.

Doc

Ya know, you just might like the Post-Waters Pink Floyd better than the 70's stuff. You should give Momentary Lapse of Reason a try, assuming you haven't all ready.

Just started learning to play bass and other than scales and the other beginner stuff the first song I'm learning to play is "Money".
I must say, I agree with an earlier post "Wish you were here" in probably my favorite album.

"You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry."

Money was the first song I learned on bass also. A very distinguishable bass line that you will automatically know if you are play the wrong notes/rhythm.
Pigs (3DO) is another great bass song.
Comfortably Numb is quite easy.

Darnit, ya beat me to it! I do, however, apply that gaff to other bands, like "which one's Jethro?" Pulled that on somebody familiar with Jethro Tull, once, and without missing a beat they replied "Ian, of course!" Otherwise, Pink Floyd is my favorite band, and I have most all of their albums on CD, save for just a few that are basically "greatest hits" type compilations. Led Zeppelin is right behind Pink Floyd, on my "list" of favorite bands.
