Just sitting here watching SNL and before a commercial break, their guitar player(who usually just sits in the background),stood out front and played two notes and made a painful face. And that was it. :? It just made me think of the days of GE Smith. I used to watch SNL just to see GE Smith! They gave him a good bit of air time. I learned alot of licks watching him. Wish they'd hire him back.

Yeah, we haven't heard much of GE recently. I thought he was having a bit of a revival ... he had a Signature Telecaster Model ... or did I dream that? Where is it/he now?

Gosh ...

Haven't watched SNL in years. GE was the best thing about that show for a long time, didn't realize he was off it.

GE Smith is a member of Moonalice - http://moonaliceband.com/

They will be releasing an album produced by T Bone Burnett on April 14.

And yes, he has a signature Telecaster - http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0118202854

I remember him, especially when he played slide for that same artist that wrote "fast car".
I wish I could remember her name.
She sang "give me a reason" well before she would release it.
G.E. played that slide to where it seemed like he was shaping each note, a lot better than whoever played on the single.
(I hope it wasn't him)...
This guy had chops no matter what you threw at him, one totally competent practitioner with few peers.
The only other well-known artist with that type of overall skill is Clapton, you guys probably know of others, Frampton, May, Beck,...

And he played with Bob Dylan for 3 years or so in the late '80s. And he was the musical director of the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Celebration Concert (and played) in 1992.
