If I had to compare it, I'd say it's more Jack Johnson that Curt Cobain.

I've very critical of a lot of stuff, and love to rip things apart (if only for positive critiquing) but I like this. It's raw, it's done well, and it is - what it is: just you in your room playing an original song, a good one, and doing it well.

It's better and more "real" than a lot of crap I hear on the radio now. I can hear this style used in a lot of soundtracks for indie, and even some major films as well.

It's fine as it is. Keep doing this. Record more. Put them together into a CD, and do it now. Good stuff.

Thanks a lot everyone. One thing to point out though...I tend to only get positive feedback on this site. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate that and it encourages me to continue writing, but I'd love to hear about what I'm doing wrong. So if you're someone not posting in my threads because you're following the "If you can't say anything nice please don't say anything at all" policy, don't be afraid. You're not going to hurt my feelings.

Again though, thanks everyone. You've been awesome.

O.k., you asked for it. I'd take the humming out. Use it for a sad song. I could barely hear the humming so it sounded haunting to me.

Also take the selling your song advice and set up a Myspace account. But before you post any more songs send them first to BMI and get them copyrighted.

You could also send a happy song about a journey to American Idol this year and see what they say. From what I've read they will take your royalties for two years but lend you $10 grand on future royalties.

Don't give up music but don't give up school either. You need a decent job to pay bills and buy health insurance. Music is not going to give you that security. No matter how good a gig you land.

Hope my opinions help and are constructive.[/quote]

Ok, I'm giving it another listen.

...

...

...

Before I described it as Kurt Cobainish... I was wrong. The beginning kind of was, but after a while it brightened up. The "Hey"'s and "Dahdah"'s, I wouldn't have included. Um... again, it was good.

I still wouldn't say it's like Jack Johnson or anything.
