I just recently tried out as a rhythm guitarist with a band, practiced twice with them ... lead guitarist, bass, and drums. They seem to really like me but I'm not so sure about them yet. Nice bunch of guys but ...

1) not sure I'm happy enough with the music they want to play (old classic/british rock). Maybe I want more variety.

2) not happy with their skill level. The bassist seems kind of sloppy and the drummer seems like he follows us instead of providing the beat. it bothers me that I think I can play better than either of them.

Anyone else ever feel that?

Yup, I feel that way with my metal band, because though the drummer is good, the bassist seems to like playing low, which makes me wonder about confidence (and skill level). He's also one of my really good friends, but the past few years, he's gotten kind of annoying. I know I'll have a hard time with him if we start touring. The screamer... he doesn't have a sense of rhythm. Well... I guess he may, but maybe he doesn't realize he should use it or something. I dunno. Also, we just haven't had as many practices as we've been needing. And I still don't know if this is a group project, or if the screamer is heading it (for it sounds to me like he is, but he's just like "do whatever", and I'm a guy that wants specifics. If I'm going to play his songs, I want to know what he wanted it to sound like when he heard it in his head).

I'm in two covers bands. One simpler stuff, soul, blues, old stuff. Bass, drums, two guitars, male vocals. The other a bit more adventurous. Female singer, keys, two guitars, bass drums. Both gigging nicely. What a laugh. A lot of practice though, and the memory's gettin a bit stretched with two repertoires of 40 songs each to store!

I play guitar in a band called Butcher. This band is always on hiatus. My singer (Camella) is married to the guitar player of a band called Tool and she's always doing things for his band instead of mine. Dammit! We're supposed to be recording an album in January ---- wait ---- what? it's already March? Well damn! More waiting!

I've got lots of other projects going on, but that band was pretty much my venting machine. I wrote cool pieces for that band. Now I just do background music for video games or play Who covers on bass with friends. Meh! I'm bitter!

That's awesome. I'm actually from the same town as him and Tom Morello.

Well, is there any way for you or your town to take him back and keep him? He's cramping my style!!!

Ha! I know how difficult band members can be. We took a near 5+ year hiatus as well.

It's been four/five years since recording our last album with maybe 7 gigs in between to count for. It's such a shame to see such a good band go spiraling its way down the crapper! At least our drummer Sasha is making good progress in his new band Black Math Horsemen. i love these guys!

Meh!

I'm still bitter!

I kid!
