I started playing in 2008 shortly before my 44th birthday. My first guitar--which I still have--was a 2007 Squier Standard Stratocaster. About a year later I bought a 2008 Classic Player Jazzmaster Special. About six months ago I picked up a 2006 60th-Anniversary Edition '72 Telecaster Deluxe, which I love love love.

Don't tell the Strat and the Jazzy, but the Tele is my favorite. 8)

I started playing when I was 13, on the Squier Strat my parents had given me a couple of years earlier. It's been a little over four years now. :)

I got my first guitar, an electric black-and-white Lyon by Washburn (a Strat lookalike) for Christmas when I was either 10 or 11, but I didn't actually start really playing it until when I was 12. I'm 14 now, and I've acquired three other guitars since then.
SO, now, my family consists of (in order of when I acquired them):

My Lyon
Black Fender acoustic
"Metallic Red" Affinity Squier Strat
Brian May Signature Guitar in the 3-Tone Sunburst finish

I mainly play my Brian May Signature, but if I don't want to bother with the case, I just pick up my Lyon. Although I've been mainly playing my Squier when I don't want to bother with the case, because my Lyon has a broken high E string at the moment....

I'd never sell any of my guitars, and especially my Lyon. It has too much sentimental value to me to part with it--plus, it sounds great to me!! :P

Haha, yeah, I owe all my thanks to Brian for inspiring me to learn how to play. I don't know where I'd be or what I'd be doing with my life if it weren't for him, his music, and Queen's music as a whole. I love playing guitar.

He truly is wonderful. Just a unique tone all round. Hows that Brian May signature? I know Guild used to make it in the U.S. and Burns in the U.K. but I hear he has a guy making them outright now with his guitar tech. Which is it you have?
I'd love to try one.

I started playing guitar the first part of December 2009. About a month ago. I am 56 and recently retired.

I have a MIM Stratocaster circa 2005/06.

I tell my friends that are still working... "Retirement ROCKS!" 8)

I envy many of you on here. I started playing about a year and a half ago and I'm 34 now. I spent the majority of my youth being an athlete but now that I'm just about 35 it's hard to enjoy sports as much. I wish I had spent those early years learning guitar instead but hey at least I started now.

I started at 12 with an old Hawiian guitar (with only four strings left on it) that had belonged to my grandfather. At 13 I bought a Beltone archtop acoustic for $35.00 and took lessons for about a year and a half. Started in a band just before I turned 15 and at 16 bought my first electric, the 1963 Les Paul Jr. which I still have. Played in various bands 'til I finished highschool, then at 19 university took precedence over music and I just messed around from time to time for about 40 years. Started playin' again about eight months ago and got my Strat in August. Still nowhere near where I was when I was playin' regularly but I'm gettin' there and lovin' it.

Tell me about it!! :D And to think that he and his dad built the Red Special by themselves!!!! God, what a fine piece of craftmanship that guitar is. :P

Haha, yes, mine is one where Brian took over the manufacturing from Burns. He made a lot of improvements on it, I've heard, ever since he became the "manager", so to speak.
I completely and whole-heartedly recommend them! You definitely should go and try one out if it's possible, seeing as though that you're in the U.K.. With me being in New Jersey, I didn't even get to play one or even see one in real life before buying mine! I had to depend solely on videos, soundbytes, and reviews, but my God--I couldn't be happier. :D It's a lovely instrument, and the myriad of tones it has is just mind-blowing!! You can do bends like a piece of cake, thanks to the wide neck. I also love that that it has 24 frets instead of the usual 22. And of course, it has the looks to boot. It's absolutely gorgeous. :P

I plan on getting a treble booster as soon as I can so I can play with that swooning feedback; I've always wanted to do that.
