I tried a fretless P-bass 30+ years ago, it had dots...
Your only real chance of making that a reality is,...pick out that one bass that has that meaty tone your buddies would kill for, and, lose the frets.

Naming a Bass is close to impossible because maleness is the identity of the tonal register, so Meat, Boomer, Thumper,...given some time you'll find the right name.

When I had one guitar I didn't have a name for it. It was my Strat (Oly White '88 Standard with Kahler Trem). 15 years later I got a Gibson Nighthawk and things Changed

'88 Fender Strat - Gramma
'04 Fender Players Strat - Blue (You Good Dog, You)
'05 Fender Buddy Guy MIM - Buddy
'95 Gibson Nighthawk - 'Ol Red
'03 Epiphone Emperor II - Joe (as in Pass)
'?? Epiphone Mandobird IV - Little Johnny (as in Winter)
I haven't named my Fender GDS 500 SE Acoustic, but then I only have one, now that my FR-50 Resonator has a broken neck

My guitars have names...Fender, Gretsch, and Gibson....Anything past that offends the people you don`t name them after.

How about naming your bass Sally? (as in long tall)

I have yet to name my guitars, but upon making mistakes am know to address them as " you *@#$ forsaken *#&@%", or "c'mon you *&^$*%! piece of #*$%." I know its the poor musician that blames his instrument, but sometimes I just cant help myself. :?

Actually its long tall sally. Its the name of a song, although the artist name escapes me at the moment.

update: the song was written by Robert "bumps" and covered by Led Zepplin and the beatles to name a few.
