Hah I love that movie. I seem to remember a scene where they buy generic beer from a giant pro looking display. We laughed about that.

Killer soundtrack on that if you are into mid 80's punk.

Gotta love product placement. Don't you love in movies or TV when someone is walking around with a can of Coke/Pepsi/Beer and no matter where he walks or what direction he faces the label is always 100% clear straight on, nearly unobstructed view?

This is why I love the movie 'Repo Man'. Seriously, watch it--every 'product' in the movie (well, maybe not cars) is generic! It's hilarious just for that, and the movie itself came out in 1984!

That reminds me, has anybody who has seen 'Drowning Mona' noticed that every car in the movie is a Yugo?

I love Repo Man, It's in my DVD collection, I'm puttin' it on right now.

Repo Man is one of my favorite movies of all time...Those God*&#@! Rodriguez Brothers...Plate...Plate of Shrimp...You're on the Honor Roll of the Chariots of Fire Otto, just like us...Repo man spends his life getting IN TO tense situations...

Speaking of product placement, a classic example is the movie Blue Velvet. Kyle Maclachlan practically does a Heineken commercial onscreen while Dennis Hopper has one of the best movie lines--"Heineken?! @&#$ that #$%#!! Pabst!! Blue Ribbon!!"

This is simply product placement, guys. Naturally a lot of this sort of activity emanates from the SoCal area and we have a guy out here whose full-time gig is actively seeking (and being actively sought for) these kinds of opportunities. Typically the instruments aren't sold to the production house but rather are loaned for the shoot and returned -- I'm not sure if that was the case here as there are exceptions, of course.

Somehow, I have this urge to commission a guitar, in a generic white and blue trim color scheme (like the product placement in 'Repo Man'). Even so, having a guitar that just says 'Guitar' probably woudn't have the same impact.

BTW, does anybody remember PiL's (Public Image Limited, John Lydon AKA Johnny Rotten's group) release from '86, 'Album'? It was also released as 'Cassette' and 'Compact Disc' in that classic white and blue generic cover art. It actually was/is a really and suprisingly good disc, had Steve Vai on guitar and Ginger Baker on drums. You can look it up on Wiki.

I am gonna use that as a headstock decal when I assemble a parts hot rod, that would be hilarious.

Yer Kiddin' Me!?! My Friend had that CD and we listened to it nearly everyday. He was totaly into Punk and I was into Rock and Blues. I Had No Idea That Vai and Ginger Baker were on that album. I'd have rubbed it in his face. "You're Favoprite Punk is rocking with a Poser and a Dinosaur! HAHA!"

Yup, straight up. I remember reading about it years ago when it first came out, long before the Internet (it might have been in Rolling Stone). I had the same reaction (Vai + Baker + Lydon? No way! But yes, apparently, way!) I'm gonna have to get a new CD copy, I haven't heard the album in eons! The fact that I can still remember it even now after 20 + years must mean that it's at least fairly decent if not better than average.

Ablolutely a Great album. I'm also gonna have to get it again now that I know who's on it.
