I'm trying to regain some of the speed I lost after a gym accident years ago (70 lb dumbbell on the end of my left ring finger; didn't play for a year and a half).

While I'm more of a tone and feel kind of player, I would love to learn sweep picking.

Playing the blues, but as instrumental only and with chords but minimized, arranged for solo guitar from recorded versions, which is blurring the line of blues-jazz. Sometimes the written music is BB, sometimes it's Eric, sometimes it's Hendrix, but it's always their blues songs and played as straight blues. My wife doesn't say it's the blues, she says it's just too loud. Working on the blues is going to take me the rest of my life to master and I still won't be there and I sure hope that's a real long time.

Okay, I'm trying to learn this think where you slap the top E with your thumb WHILE strumming down with your index on whichever strings you are playing. I can do it if I play in between notes and chords and picking, but not WHILE I'm playing. My brain and my fingers won't let me.

I would love to learn "Lenny", but I'm not that experienced. It's fun to imagine though. *sigh* LOL

Blues is the best! I'm still adding Blues "vocabulary" to my playing. I try to pick up something new every week from Albert King, SRV, Clapton, BB, etc.

I think a good ''blues'' solo's like someone talking to you.
It's more about feeling and tone then intimidate with technique.
Just my opinion.

Just started in on surfin-bird (trashmen) and wipe-out for some silly reason.
Exactly not the kind of music I normally like.
Must be the threat of coming winter snows

I'm starting a duo wtih a female singer, so I'm working out solo acoustic accompaniments to songs like "I Wish I Knew (How It Feels To Be Free)" By Nina Simone, "Micahel from Mountains" by Joni Mitchell, "Joey" by Concrete Blonde, Cassandra WIlson's version of "Time After Time..." It's that kind of Rebecca Martin thing where it's not really jazz but it's too jazzy to be folk/pop... I'm having huge fun.

Inspired by the new 'Lenny' Strat announced close to his birthday I learnt 'Lenny' by Stevie Ray Vaughn as a tribute. It's a gorgeous song and has a really nice story behind it. :)
I recommend this song to anyone, to listen to, to play. The amount of passion SRV puts into that performace (especially the Live at Carnigie (?) hall performance) is unbelievable!!

I would love to break out of that darn Minor Pentatonic scale I've been stuck in. Any tips on what I should work on next?

I'm working on getting my speed up, and coordinationg my hammer on's, pull offs and picking - I'm primarily a keyboard player, although I've been playing guitar almost as long as keys- I put the guitar aside for quite a few years and want to get my licks back- dang it's a long hard road...
