i did'nt understand the part when plant said 'we just threw this thing together in three days'.

Well I understood that Robert Plant was not warm about the idea, the style and the mix of people. So they decided to give it a fair try, a three days meeting, head scratching, think tank, to see how everyone felt about it, sing along and discover affinities between themselves and it worked. After that they met again to do the album. Plant said that if the three days trial were to prove itself unproductive, they would have stop the whole thing and return home after a big meal and a party. Well something like that.

thanks bro'!

I have seen Allison Krauss and Union Station in concert, and it was a great show. Not only can she sing like an angel, but she writes some beautiful songs. She also has a great band, Union Station behind her, with a great guitarist.
By the way, if you can, check out the best dobro player in the world, Jerry Douglas. His latest album "Glide" s really nice.
Plants days as a hard rocker are over. He was truly a pioneer in the rock and roll genre, but he is older now, and not what he once was. Neither is his voice. I think he understands that.

Plant has always been a forward looking musician, too. He doesn't really like to revisit what he already did, even if it means low ticket and record sales. He struck gold with Raising Sand, but I'm sure it's as big of a surprise to him as it was to us.

The second their pairing starts to seem stale or old, he'll be on to the next thing.

I have most of Allison Krauss + Union Station's CD's, I've been listening to them since the '90's. Jerry Douglas is unbeatable on Dobro, as far as I'm concerned. And Allison Krauss is a double threat on vocals and fiddle!

I'm sure that there are quite a few people who would prefer Robert Plant to be 'hermetically sealed' style-wise, circa 1974. Just like they wish Jeff Beck would just only do his old 'Beck-Ola' stuff, or that Rod Stewart would sing 'Hot Legs' and nothing else. It's like a high school reunion, where there's always someone that thinks it's cool that THEY think time has stood still for them (um,no, time did not). Growth and maturity in music, like in everything else, is a good thing.

I thought her genre was "Bluegrass"? Anyways, props to Plant to be able to make any money selling CD's these days. If you don't like it, change the channel.

Yes, she plays violin and is the lead singer with Union Station.

Still, it is a strange pairing. I guess you have to give T-Bone Burnett a lot of credit for making it work. I couldn't believe Plant didn't want to tour with Zep (I never got to see them live despite them being one of my all-time favorite bands), but as it turns out, Plant may be smarter than his Zeppelin mates.

It is a really great CD, and yes, T-Bone Burnett deserves quite a bit of credit for that.

Saw them in concert here in Nashville and would pay twice as much to see it all over again - magnificent!! Not just Robert and Alison but some of the finest backing musicians in Nashville!

And they are going to do another album....

When I first heard of the pairing I was curious to say the least - sounded odd. But they fit - boy, do they fit...

Will someone please tell me why Robert Plant is with that country idiot?

i know that they got the best record or somethin in grammy's but i still cant stand that just drives me up the wall :|

anyone shed some light on that?

Robert Plant had to do something after his hugely (not to) successful Mighty ReArranger

I mean really, the nerve of Robert Plant playing with a country artist, I mean there was never any sort of blues, country, and/or bluegrass influences and sounding stuff when he was with Led Zepplin...so how dare Robert Plant be diverse, explore other musical genres/styles, and NOT paint himself into a corner. Freaking musicians collaborating with other musicians, who the h*ll do they think they are?

 I'm being sarcastic, and I am joking about Plant and Krauss, I think its cool...Whats more confusing to me is why they let Kid Rock play on the Grammys? He is neither country, rap, or rock, his music is either CRAP or CROCK, but I thought the Grammys was about good music...

Plant's voice, as many have mentioned here, is not what it was when he performed with Led Zep. As he has aged, he has discovered another comfort zone for the use of his voice... collaborating with Krauss was an excellent step to be taken... with the outcome of such a great CD.

They were one of the few bright spots on that awful show...

Here's the deal.
No matter how much you love Zeppelin, that was 30+ years ago--3 decades!

I have no problem with listening to older music--I do it quite a bit.

But my point is--this is what Plant is into now.

Now, if he had quit Zeppelin in, say 75 or 76 and gone off to do this--then I would understand the original post. Time moves on, and he's changing with it. While he doesn't reject his musical output with Zeppelin, he also isn't stuck there, trying endlessly to relive it, and never moving on.

You can either like it, or not like it--I'm sure he's fine with that--and either way you have the original Zeppelin, along with various repackaging, live material, etc, to entertain you.

I lived in Nashville for about 7 years, but not currently...the only place I went to was Rock Block guitars cause it was within walking distance from where I lived. I suggest checking the pawn shops cause the ones down there always have some decent stuff for a good price...
